The last documentary I watched was on the Group NWA (Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy E, MC Ren, DJ Yella and The D.O.C.). It was amazing. This one group really changed the music scene and have influenced most modern artists from Rap to Country to Rock etc. It's a really interesting documentary narrated by Chris Rock and has all of the members of NWA telling their story in the documentary and a few invited guests like Ice-T.

Hell Dr. Dre is now the wealthiest Musician in the world. No bad from a couple of kids from Compton who people were thought were gang bangers. Dr. Dre has also produced songs and albums for some of the biggest non Rap and Hip Hop artists of every genre including Sir Elton John.

i watched it. admittedly, i could not finish it in one sitting...had to take it in small doses.

it is a relatively heavy subject matter. not so much because of the race issues, but the fact that music can affect people's moods and mindsets heavily, and the conflict of creativity vs censorship is a highly polarized issue.

thank you for recommending this flowerforyou

That really isn't a history of Gangsta Rap, but it was funny as hell. Did you watch the video I posted? There's a lot people really don't know about rap and it started as a mean of non violent protest and frustration with life in the Ghetto and treatment by Law Enforcement.

Even President Reagan called NWA the most Dangerous Group in the world. They are the reason the Parental Advisory label was created and if you look at their records, none of them were really criminals other then Eazy-E who was a drug dealer as a kid and turned his life around and brought in 10 million dollars a day with his record label. There was even a funny part how president Bush Sr. criticized NWA on a regular basis but because of how much Eazy E donated to charity he was invited to a dinner at the White House with President Bush. Eazy E was his stage name his name was actually Eric Wright so all donations of course have to go under your real name so President Bush or the Secret Service didn't realize who they actually invited to dinner until he showed up.

After that meeting President Bush didn't criticize again. It is a really interesting documentary.

I really liked how NWA committed to each other to keep the violence on the record and off the street with their feuds. It was that way until that Dr.. Dre got involved with Suge Knight and Dre didn't realize who he had just gotten into business with and as soon as he did he left and created his own label.

I watched their reunion show in 2000 with Snoop Dogg filling in for Eazy E, it was tough to watch with out Eazy. That man was a genious both musically and financially.

I always wondered why he wore the dark sunglasses while giving interviews and preforming, I didn't realize it was because he didn't want to be a rapper and had stage fright and social anxiety and when he recorded tracks everyone had to leave the studio and Dr. Dre had to turn the lights off to record Eazy's tracks. Hell, their first song as a group that Ice Cube wrote Boyz in The Hood was written for one of Eazy's groups he managed but they were East Coast and the song didn't make sense to them and Ice Cube couldn't sing on an NWA record yet because he was still signed on another label with his group CIA, Dr. Dre wanted to produce it and not rap it, Ren, Yella, The D.O.C and the Arabian prince all said no way so Dr. Dre said Eazy why don't you do it and it was a bit of an argument at first but he eventually agreed and it became a huge hit! I will post a link to the song at the bottom, it is a work of genius, Eazy had an amazing voice, you could totally understand the story not like the rappers of today where you cant understand anything but the bad language. You should listen to the song, this song was the start of modern rap. I always thought it was because he wanted to be a bad a$$. That is exactly why you don't judge someone or profile them.
