I was in a hurry. I was going to be the magician for a birthday party. But, I needed a new trick. I raced through the magic shop. I tossed and turned the magic handkerchiefs, the
wands, and hundreds of card tricks. And, then...Voila! I held up a small packet of sparkly sand that read, ‘The Vanishing Sand.’ I rules said. “Say the magic word-ABRAGAZOOKS-or chaos will happen.” “Awesome! You’ll show them too,” I said to my pet ferret, Sam, who was inside my pocket coat. As I got to the birthday party and without knowing it, Sam gobbled up the Vanishing Sand rule from my pocket. At birthday party, everyone was jumping on a trampoline in the backyard. “Happy Birthday,” I said to the birthday boy. First, I did my magic card tricks. I did the cup and balls tricks. Then put my top hat on a table. I swirled my magic wand around it and Sam popped out. Everyone laughed. “Now I’ll make my ferret disappear for seconds,” I said. I pulled out The Vanishing Sand and sprinkled it on top of Sam. I couldn’t find the magic rule. I tried to remember the magic word. “ABRAGABOOKS!” I said. Sam sat there in the hat. Then another Sam flipped out. “WOW!” everyone said. “Huh?” I said. Sam and the second Sam popped out of the hat. They started stomping all over the Birthday boy’s gifts. “Oh no,” I said. “ABRAGAHOOKS?” Sam counted to two, three and four! The four ferrets climbed onto the trampoline and bounced and bounced. I jumped on the trampoline and bounced and shouted, “ABRAGATOOKS!” The four ferrets jumped off the trampoline and ran to the driveway. “Oh great,” I groaned. I hightailed after them and shouted, “ABRAGACOOKS!” Sam added to four, five, and six and grew enormous paws. They THUMPED, THUMPED, THUMPED through the neighborhood. They stopped to get an itchy itch off their back. They SCRATCHED, SCRATCHED, SCRATCHED and giant fur balls stormed everywhere. I took out my magic handkerchief and rolled it in my hands. In seconds, it stretched out to a black and green diamond quilt. I swooped up the ferrets with the quilt and said, “ABRAGAYOOKS?” When I uncovered them, Sam counted to six, seven, eight, nine and ten! “What am I going to do?” I asked myself. “BOOKS? TOOKS? YOOKS?” I struggled to think of the magic word-ABRAGAZOOKS. “I remember!” I said. I ran to the ferrets and yelled, “ABRAGAZOOKS!” The ferrets swirled into one and POOF! They disappeared. I searched and searched. Where was Sam? For hours, I could not find my wiggly buddy. Walking home, I heard crunches. In a mailbox I found Sam crunching on a envelope. I grabbed him out the mailbox and headed home. “Next time, Sam,” I said, “I’ll just do my old magic tricks.” |
