Sandra Bland
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-33573743/ Sandra Bland The FBI is to investigate the case of a black woman found dead in a Texas jail cell, apparently from a suicide. Authorities say Sandra Bland hanged herself, but her family says she would not have taken her own life. A video was found on her Facebook page in which she said she was suffering from "a little bit of depression" and post-traumatic stress disorder. Her death follows a series of cases in which black people have died in police custody or during arrest. Bland had been stopped by police after improperly signalling a lane change while driving. She was arrested after allegedly kicking a police officer after the traffic stop. Family members were shocked by her death, unable to believe she would have killed herself. A second video showed Bland saying "Depression is nothing but the devil" and that "it's a daily struggle". The FBI has launched an investigation, following the start of a separate inquiry by the Texas Rangers law enforcement agency. null Bland's family said she was not in the emotional state to kill herself The 28-year-old had just moved to Texas from Illinois to start a new job. Her sister Shante Needham said Bland called her from jail, saying she did not know why she had been arrested and that an officer had possibly broken her arm. Bland died by asphyxiation using a plastic bag to hang herself in her cell, according to Waller County District Attorney Elton Mathias. Video footage did not show what happened inside Bland's cell, but did suggest no one entered or left it until someone found her unconscious. The Texas Commission on Jail Standards cited the Waller County Jail three years ago for not checking all inmates once an hour. Another inmate hanged himself with a bed sheet in 2012. Jail Sheriff Glen Smith said his staff checked on Bland less than an hour before she was found dead. Texas state senator Royce West asked the Texas Department of Public Safety to release video of the arrest and called her death "suspicious" |

Yeah, yeah. Families always know everything about their loved ones.

This stuff ( unfortunately) happens all the time. Last summer at one of our largest prisons ( Rikers Island) a inmate died of heart attack due to heat stroke after the heat was mistakenly turned on in his segregated cell. It got to well over 100 degrees for a very long period of time ( days if I am not mistaken) He complained many times and the problem was ignored.
The guards were brought up on charges, but that means little. These people are in their for terrible things, but the prisons have a responsibility to make sure they have the means to sustain life and to make sure they do not have the means to end their life, should they be deemed suicidal. Somebody screwed up here. |

Yeah, yeah. Families always know everything about their loved ones. ![]() People with PTSD have been known to kill themselves. I agree people dont always know everything about their family, but they often are a good gauge of piece of mind people self diagnose themselves with catchy labels like 'depression' and 'post traumatic stress disorders',,,,,,the article doesnt say she actually suffered from either,, just that she made a reference to it on a facebook page,,, |

there are two possibilities
she hung herself (with a bag? how small was she?) because she had a fresh start and it got screwed up over a turn indication,,,, she was hung to shut her up |
|
|
|
Doesn't seem right. The autopsy will tell if she had any fractures or dislocations from the takedown seen in part in the video but the clip they showed on the ABC News was mighty short and edited. I've been pulled over quite a few times in different parts of Texas and maybe 1/10 officers was even rude to me. Never once was I asked to step out of the car but I was in the Army then and mostly on highways when pulled over. I know racial climate can vary from one town to the next. Where did she get a trash bag or the idea to hang herself with it in the first place? Sounds fishy...

there are two possibilities she hung herself (with a bag? how small was she?) because she had a fresh start and it got screwed up over a turn indication,,,, she was hung to shut her up She never committed suicide. She was murdered by the pigs, this is not the first time the pigs done that....& guess what, no one will be charged & a bogus story will be concluded again regarding her death.......unless the investigations will follow legit protocol |

Now I hear why the video was so short, she's obviously belligerent but that's no reason to go to a full takedown. The dashcam (if it was running) should show the entire altercation and the witness is lucky he didn't get snatched up too.
The thing I can't get over is the trash bag. Yea the bail and the two cops on one woman and the witness 'on public property' right in front of a church... That bag had to be tied to something high enough to hang her then tied around her neck then had to support her full body weight + the torsion of her thrashing AND hold up without stretching tearing or coming loose at either end or slipping loose from sweat or body or hair oils long enough to asphyxiate her. Can't get over that bag...... |

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/sheriff-says-problems-jail-played-no-role-death-sandy-bland-n394461/
NEWS JUL 18 2015, 8:03 PM ET Sheriff Says Problems at Jail Played No Role in Death of Sandra Bland by PHIL HELSEL D.A.: 'Sandra Bland Death Won't Be Swept Under Rug' 1:45 The Texas sheriff's office that runs a jail where a woman apparently committed suicide this week admitted problems with training and checking up on inmates, but said the deficiencies played no role in her death. Sandra Bland, 28, was found dead in her jail cell at the Waller County Jail on July 13, three days after she was arrested in Prairie View after allegedly becoming combative with an officer during a routine traffic stop on July 10. Authorities said it appears that Bland hanged herself, but her family has questioned that account. On Thursday, the Texas Commission on Jail Standards rapped the Waller County Jail for insufficient training and for failing to check on inmates face-to-face every hour, and ordered it to come into compliance. The Waller County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Friday that the two jailers involved did receive mental health training, just not in the past year, and jailers did check in on Bland, but used an intercom system rather than an in-person inspection as required. "At this time we have no reason to believe that either one of these deficiencies had any part on the death of Ms. Bland," the sheriff's office said in the statement, adding that it will come into compliance with the rules. "We will be working on any improvements that can be made to see that this type of tragic incident never happens again," the sheriff's office said. Bland, a civil rights advocate, had recently moved to the area from suburban Chicago for a new job. She said in an online posting earlier this month that she was "depressed" but an attorney representing her family said that statement was made in March, and speaks little to her mindset before her death. An employee with the Texas Department of Public Safety involved in the July 10 traffic stop that ended with Bland's arrest was placed on administrative duty on Thursday after the department "identified violations of the department's procedures regarding traffic stops and the department's courtesy policy." The Texas Rangers and FBI are investigating Bland's death. ----------------------------------------------------- http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2015/07/18/sandra-bland-die-police-custody/30342377/ Sandra Bland death triggers #IfIDieInPoliceCustody trend Courtesy Ashley Anderson Sandra Bland, the woman who was found dead in her Waller Co. jail cell. An investigation into her death is underway. In just three days, Sandra Bland went from detained to deceased. On July 10, the 28-year-old was arrested during a traffic stop for assaulting a public servant. That following Monday, Bland was found dead in her Waller County, Texas, cell. The Harris County medical examiner ruled her death a suicide by hanging -- a finding her family is fighting. As the story continues to unfold -- the arresting officer was just found to have violated his department's procedures -- a shadow of doubt has been cast and some have begun to raise questions. Among them stands a particularly sobering query: What would you want people to know about you if you died in police custody? Using #IfIDieInPoliceCustody, a number of Twitter users are giving their answers. The hashtag shares its sentiment with #BlackLivesMatter, which has appeared throughout the last year in response to the police-involved deaths of Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Freddie Gray and more. Of the tweets, many expressed their frustrations over the perceived lack of value their lives have just because they are African Americans. Others went on to speak about hunting for truth when details aren't clear-cut. One user, Adwoa Asante of North Carolina, doesn't want to be known as an "angry black woman." Another woman shunned any mourning over her potential loss. Media portrayals were also a point of contention. In the past seven day, users have used the hashtag upwards of 16,500 times, Topsy data shows, and the number continues to grow. |

"Video footage did not show what happened inside Bland's cell, but did suggest no one entered or left it until someone found her unconscious."
This makes no sense. If the video showed that no one entered her cell, why couldn't it show what she did to herself??? ![]() ![]() |

There is a former drug dealer who posts bitter tirades on FB against cops. Obviously, he has a personal vendetta against them because of the way he was treated by them. But guess what? He was a drug dealer. He brought it on himself. Did something happen to you, Romeo? It sounds like it. |

When I first read about this case, I found it by accident, while reading about women in Congress. It was either one of 2 WHITE Congress women, that requested the Texas Rangers or FBI. I believe it was Kay Granger (or Jackie Walorski). And I can NOT find the article. ![]() After lots of searching, I am finding a lot more people involving themselves in the case, that seem to be jumping on a BAN WAGON adgenda. And getting LOTS of press. ![]() ( Black lives matter... etc) Between the agenda & everything I read about Sandra Bland & HER quotes since January 2015 & the videos.... I am NO longer impartial to this case or an agenda. Do I think she was possibility murdered ? Yes... but by WHOM & WHY is real.... IFFY ![]() Even an article about Congresswoman Mia Love, R- Utah (Riverton)... First black Republican woman ( Hattian), & her (possible) involvement with a White Suppremist who made a contribution of $1,000 or more.... GONE.. REMOVED. ![]() If anyone wants to post, articles or links on this case, feel free. Because I am totally disgusted with it & may not bother at all. ![]() |
