Well, you'll be waiting awhile cuz I don't think anyone can quite put their finger on it. You can throw adjectives and adverbs at it all day but until you experience it, what's there to feel?

love means giving her the house..

.. love means crying into your pillow every night... ..

.. love means you're just crazy enough.. to go looking for someone else.. so one day you can give them half of everything again...

If I may add, at different stages of life, it's differently experienced.

What about the man who accidentally finds his ex in distress and sends her from his savings. And then she asks for more...I know a few good friends.

What about the father who sends money for his child's college whenever and whatever he could and then she asks for a lap top he couldn't right then afford and thereafter she feels let down?

What about the mother who feeds on yesterday's leftovers so that there's fresh food on the table for the rest of the family.

What about the lady who sells her jewelry so that a young relative could finish her education. And the relative thinks the money was given by someone else.

I'm talking of ordinary people - who give invisibly - even among colleagues in the workplace - and the receiver has no clue and rejects them as being 'soft'!

What do these givers feel? Ugh, ugly painful love, but they do it again.

The love in the movies - it's quick & scripted, of the heroic kind and that exists. As described by psychologists and talk show hosts - that's behavioral science, they got to make a living. I am talking of ordinary people at all levels. The media does not see value here - its not news.

I think love is invisible, many of us & I, have received it. We deny it because it makes us look soft and then we simplify it to: counting our blessings.

And finally when it gets time to fade away and death is hovering near the bedside, what are these kind of people thinking but 'I could have given that little bit more, it could have significantly changed their little one's life'.

I say, Love is all around us. It just cannot be returned or reciprocated except by chain action downstream.

And to the young OP who started this: Love? It begins with you. Become a tower of strength & then.. I wish someone had explained all this to me when I was younger.

Reminds me of my former landlord.
I asked him where did he get that stupid dog - constantly sliding around like a cat.
He said that the dog was his ex-wife's favorite, and she let him have it.
