How does one get across to someone that calling them honey, dear, or sugar in a first message is a HUGE TURNOFF??!!!!

I am kinda sick of seeing that first sentence...."hi sugar", "hi honey"...etc. UGH frustrated

Only AFTER you have committed to me in a loving relationship do you get the privilege to call me anything like that. shades

I am in Texas. We say those things all the time (even strangers). Guess it doesn't bother me a lot. It's more of the fact they obviously don't read my profile that bugs me more

While I can appreciate and mostly agree your distaste of such terms of endearment. I feel I should point out that many people (more so in the south) use such terms with everyone.

Maybe Tom Jones is to blame, "Sugar, ah, honey, honey You are my candy girl And you got me wanting you"

Yes, the not reading of my profile is frustrating too. It's just the cutesy names have been the last 3 or so messages, so it was on my mind.

Yeah I think it depends on where you are. I grew up with that stuff so it's normal to me. I say it myself

Just part of our culture I guess. I noticed India does it a lot as well. Guess it's in their culture. Dunno I have never been there

I DO understand the southern thang. I guess it just doesn't come across as well in type as it would in person, hearing that southern drawl along with it.

However, I guess the true part that upsets me is when I then correct them and say "please call me Mel, not sugar" they most times just don't respond. So, I then feel it was maybe not simply a geographical-style of talking.

DITTO...on another site {last fall} I actually changed my nick name to 'NOHARLEYDUDES' and I still got loads of 'HARLEY DUDES' offering me their spare HARLEY

And then they got highly offended when not once - No, not the 2nd time but by the 3rd time I had to REALLY EXPLAIN; WTF I meant...I have ZERO interest in becoming 'YO HARLEY MOMMA'

So I do not put in my profile: I like motorcycles but can't ride anymore! frustrated

If someone can't respect that it makes you uncomfortable...then it's disrespectful.

Especially on a site like this. Not everyone is used to it and if it bothers them, it should be respected. But coming to Texas...people say it. If someone doesn't like it...oh well lol

I much prefer the Steve Holy approach, "Good morning, beautiful, how was your night? Mine was wonderful with you by my side And when I open my eyes to see your sweet face It's a good morning, beautiful day"

Then again, that's not a first message type thing either.
