How many ladies out here suffer from depression and how many take drugs
to deal with it?

Have dealt with it for many years. The doctors tried different drugs
when I started having panic attacks. But I couldn't take any of them, I
kept having allergic reactions to them. I was told to just deal with it
the best I could.

well I'm not a lady but I've sure had my share of depression. oh about
twenty plus years of it. anyways, if you are looking for you or a friend
for a drug I would suggest Wellbutran. I've tried three different ones
& that's the best one w/ the least side effects. You can try Omega3
fatty acids (found in fish oil) it tends to help too. if at all
possible I'd take the natural route instead of taking prescriptions or
other drugs to deal w/ it. don't want to bore everyone w/ all the
details. email me if you want to know more.

No Depression here. Life is to full of surprises and fun. With 5 kids
and 9 grandkids... I don't have time to feel sorry for myself or be
depressed *S*

Tneal, depression isn't feeling sorry for yourself, also there are many
that have chemical imbalances, (spelling, lol) depression is nothing to
look down upon or dismiss. A comment like yours could cause some
serious problem for someone else, think about that when you dismiss
their depression for feeling sorry for themselves. I'm glad that you
don't suffer from depression, but educate yourself on the subject, I'd
hate to think any one of your 5 children or grandchildren would come to
you, just to be dismissed and left to feel as though they are only
feeling sorry for themselves. I have never suffered from depression
personally, but I do feel for those that do.

Oh Chuckee thank you. very considerate of you. it's very frustrating
when people don't understand depression and tell you to just snap out of
it. Hell, if I could I would.

Thank you for your comment chuckee, but I do know the difference. I
never stated that feeling sorry for yourself IS depression. I just
stated that I have never felt sorry for MYSELF or felt DEPRESSED.... two
totally different things.

I do have a daughter now that was told she is suffering from depression.
And believe me I would never dismiss her.

4u, I love your straight fordwardness, gustyness, and honesty of putting
a subject like depression on line. I love it! Thank you! I have suffered
from depression all my life, and I am still struggling with it. By
talking about it and not hiding your feelings of having depression
really likens the load of being depressed, I don't feel so alone any
more. I am the kind of person that must talk very honest, put all of my
cards right out on the table, it's real. Depression is one of them.
Thanks again iam4u. green eyes

I haved work in the mental health/behavioral health field for about 15
years and I have seen the sadness depression causes within the people
itself and its families, I have also seen situational depresion wich can
go away with in time and I have seen chemical embalances witch needs to
be treated with medication. I cant stand it when others judge people who
suffer from this illness as it can be treated, Not cured but treated
very well with all the meds that are out there now.

My daughter really hates the idea of taking any kind of medication. We
have been looking into a more natural way of helping her depression.

We have changed her diet, and her routene (sp). She used to wear alot of
dark colors and we have made a change there also.

I have checked on the internet for herbs that help stimulate her moods.

Since she was told a month ago about her depression, she is feeling a
bit better. I just hope that we do not have to move to medication.

Tneal, The treatment facility I work for that deals with only
adolescents, I would say about 90% take meds, I am one of the few who
cant stand psych dr's that push meds, But I am 100% for meds if they are
needed.

Shagna-- My daughter is older. We are going to try the natural way first
and see how it goes. The dr told us the medication was covered on her
insurance but she so hates takin meds.

She plans on giving it a few months to see how things go then we will
see if meds is the way to go.

Thank you for your advice.

Lady63-- Your very welcome. *S*

depression is a serious issue but i too have a problem with dr.s who
over prescribe medication to patients who are depressed but not too the
point of medication. being depressed and sad is a normal part of life
that does not require medication but there are people out there that go
through a more serious form of depression that can last their entire
lives for seemingly no reason except that they have a chemical
imbalance. i wish anyone who is either clinically depressed or saddened
by life luck and good wishes. i hope that all of you that suffer are
able to go the natural route with your treatment but if not there are a
ton of medications out there.....good luck

Thats A Great Way For Your Daughter To Try Out First.I Tried That Also
But It Just Didnt Work For Me But I Found That (Effexor) Was The Only
Med That Worked With Me For All The Other Deperssion Meds Either Made Me
Sick Or Just Put Me To Sleep Or Speed Up My Heart. Just Be Careful If
She Needs Meds That Aren't Natural Or She Just May Go Threw The Same But
Even If That Happen's You Will Find One To Work With Her Mind And Body.
And
Your Welcome

I have been diagnoised with post-partum depression on top of depression.
I have taken Lexapro in the past. I kinda took myself off of them, when
I started to become a bigger b*tch on them than off of them.
I just go outside and smoke and count to 100 when the kids are getting
to me.
