It sounds rather deluded to have someone actually say it but generally people know almost instantly/instinctively if they are attracted to you. Can seriously care about you.

If that attraction does not exist then I would not give a relationship a chance. Listen up here guys; if women cringe when you make your best first move well be smart bail and move on. If she takes up with you later it is going to be a disaster in the over all. Sometimes it is just scarcasm or and attempt to appear insane to drive you away. But if she dates you when she has initially said no you are getting used. Rarely will it be worth the temporary "incentive" and often costs a lot more. Never under estimate a devious person.

I often think someone is joking or just flirting by overstating their attraction. It is a form of flattery. More common in men, especially when alcohol is involved, and some women imitate the move. I find it "tacky" most of the time it is used by either gender.

Occasionally it is a "well it took you long enough" utterance. Women often admire from afar for long periods and made up their mind what they want and when some guys finally get past their inhibitions and ask for a formal date they stop pretending to not care. This happens a lot when "friends" attempt a date. A really bad move on either side of the gender divide if you are not serious. You won't be able to back track if you are not interested and you have ruined a friendship. Can be a serious problem if this is a friendship that extends to her family members or some group you belong to. Or WORSE work. Then you make a lot of people really miserable.

However do not be surprised if you find out later that the person who does pick you goes to friends or family and tells them in confidence they have met "the one." Many long term marriages report knowing from the start.

Decisive people are sometimes more open to just saying so. They know what they want and are actively seeking it.

My late husband went back to his command assistant and told him to be prepared to be a best man that he had met the woman he was going to marry after two casual dances and a request for a phone number at a birthday party (he was not invited to) in a club I really did not take it seriously until he proposed a month later and we were married a hundred days later. Scary yes but the BEST move I ever made in my life.

A move, had a mutual friend not supported it telling me if I did not give him the requested phone number he would because I did not know my husband from the man in the moon at the time, was not dating, and absolutely would not have dated someone who had a reputation for being a confirmed bachelor, no kids, and a career executive military officer that was going to constantly be "under the gun". So yea if you have friends and a good reputation to vouch for you it can make a huge difference.

A lot of people whine and complain they can't find a mate but they run when people clearly sate that they do want a mate in their future. That seems kind of crazy to me. If a person doesn't have the desire to commit you are lowering your chances by playing with players.

Well I guess I should say yes.. and there is something inside of me that says that would be a bit of a lie..

When I met my husband, I knew with in a couple of dates that he was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.

We had a wonderful marriage..

Now if someone actually said that to me

I could see myself chuckling and saying something to the effect of
Can we see if we fight well together??
And go from there.

I don't think I'd feel scared.

Annoyed maybe.

But it depends on a lot of things.

Like if they are serious or not.

Like how freaky they are about it.

Like are they saying "I have your license plate, and I found your social security number and address on the internet. I want you to marry me. I will ask you every day for the next forever because that's romantic, and IIIIIII know wherrrrrrrre, to fiiiiiiind, yooooooooou."

Or are they saying "OMG we've talked on line for 15 years and our online love affair is finally coming true! Please, now that we get to be together for the first time, our lives have moved us to this point, please marry me and let us never part and do all the things we talked about!"

Or are they saying "meh, I'm tired of dating and dealing with it. So...(what's your name again)...do you wanna get hitched?"

Or "yeah, I couldn't believe it was you standing there. Your pictures are really different. But you're great. I'm so glad you showed up and aren't some kind of jungle beast. I feel like I should propose to you or something because you seem like one of those 'good ones' people are always going on about and I don't want to squander an opportunity."

Or "I have a gun, a ring, and a preacher...what do you say?"

How I feel about it just depends on some things and stuff.
