sooooo I am sitting in my counseling course last week and one of my instructors begins speaking of the importance of a self care plan
and the high burn out rate in this profession and I sat there thinking "lady you got any idea how busy I am????" these kids around me are all in their early to mid twenties and most are not even married yet..grad school and a part time job is all they got on their plate ugh..so I asked myself these questions 1.how are you sleeping? are you getting enough? are you back on your routine of rising up at 6 each morning 2. when was the last time you did a few yoga poses? wrote in a journal? 3. when was the last time you went to see the kiddos and does your heart and soul need to hold that grandbaby? 4. you are NOT a mom machine ya know how that wears on you when you go full steam ahead and damn the torpedos..when was the last time you went for a walk? listened to some soothing music? 5. how are the cobwebs in your mind? in your heart? are you dealing with the issues still left over as they surface? are you making peace with them one by one? 6. how is the state of your house? are you up to speed on housework? you know you must have an organized house in order to have an organized mind for chaos and clutter bothers you and is a direct reflection of how you feel. are you on task with your work? got a handle on it now? 7. how are your eating habits lately? are you eating nutritious home cooked foods that you know will nourish your body and help you to maintain energy thru out the day or are you eating fast food junk? are you reaching for comfort foods in order to reward yourself or to mask the stress or distress in your life? if so..then stop long enough to realize this 8. are you remembering to breathe? and to ease up on that pressure that you place on yourself? so I will ask you today my darling minglers what is your self care plan? things you will do just for you little bit today little bit better tomorrow ![]() |

I do everything alone these days, but not a lot simply "for me". ![]() ya? hmmmm I have been doing things alone for quite sometime actually..even when I was still married. He was gone most of time so I got good at the cooking, cleaning, running kids to practice, games, and making sure they got their homework done..I was Supermom ![]() problem was I ignored myself..ignored my own feelings, needs, health I was not being pro-active in my own life for instance I would make dentist appts for the kids, doctor appts if they needed it but would always tell myself " as long as the kids are getting done I will worry about me later" wrong!!!! see that self sacrificing nature? " as long as the kids are healthy, the hubbs is healthy and happy everything is alright" wrong!!!! where did I come into that equation? I had tendency to ignore my own pain and just keep on shouldering the load because I was strong enough to take it and keep on going but at what cost? my sanity? my happiness? my identity? my soul? so I tend to still be this mom machine and I have to stop sometimes and remind myself to take care of me ain't nobody gonna do it for you ![]() it's about taking ownership of your own state of mind your own mental and emotional well being ![]() |

I remember when one of my professors asked this in general classroom lecture. I sat there dumbfounded. I was still reeling with being a widow. trying to find my way of being a mother/father homemaker/repairman. car washer/ mechanic... Taking care of me.. Heck I would have been happy to go to the bathroom to take a piddle without someone knocking on my door at that time. ![]() Through the years this turned out to be one of the best lectures I had during my college days. I slowly starting evolving into myself care plan. The one thing I do no matter how busy my day or how many fires I have to put out in a day. Or what client I want to pull my hair out over. I take 15 minutes a day to just be.. This concept took me years to accomplish. To just be.. Slowing down the mind to where it isn't functioning making decisions etc. Slowing down to where the world just fades away into nothing... Such blissful time. At the end of it I am so energized and find that I have time to take time to take care of me. |
