1940-2000; people knows and write letters call and visit previous to go dating and get in love. 2001-2015; chat on networks never seen before but get involve and if the relation progress visit and maybe join in a "serious relationship"? 2016-....... Chat and relates but ?????...

and fall in love the traditional old fashioned way

then comes the internetz and cyber dating and chatting online with countless strangers ...and if ya hit it off with one you start talking to just him
and you decide when to meet and maybe it turns into something serious

I differ in my assessment of past and present.

Perhaps my personal experiences have been more unique than I know.

Before the internet and cell phones, people I knew and observed, got together based mostly on looks, followed by some amount of talking (face to face, telephone, mail), and followed sometimes instantaneously by sex.

Today things are exactly the same.

I think all that has changed, is the illusions people work up to cover for their behaviors, or to blame them on. Then as now, people mostly deluded themselves with lust of one kind or another, before taking things too far with incompatible people, or before leaping into affairs. Then as now, people made up fairy tales about destiny, about how "society made them do it," and so on.

I think perhaps that the availability of electronic contact, makes it possible to be rejected or misunderstood by thousands more people than before. But the fact that some people have sordid little trysts and blame them on everyone but themselves, remains identical.

indeed just fishing in a whole lot bigger pond now

used to be..you might size someone up
if you came in contact with them say at work
or they were a friend of a friend of yours
you could kind of get a feel for what kind of person they were
before deciding if you wanted to ask them out

strike up a few conversations
look for eye contact, interest

it does make it a little harder to do this based on just words
