Topic: gun rights for non violent offenders | |
---|---|
now a days a persons 2nd amendment rights can be stripped for life by the federal government for not so serious crimes. these include non violent misdemeanors and felonies. question is, if someone is convicted of a non violent crime, misdemeanor or felony, should they lose their right to self protection for the rest of their lives? many times people make mistakes when theyre young and once grown up with a family are changed people but because of their prior mistake risk prison time just for wanting to be able to protect their families. now also keep in mind people convicted of "white collar" crimes dont suffer the same penalties as white collar crimes dont trigger a federal gun ban, seems to me like the politicians made sure their rich buddies who get convicted of ripping off old peoples retirement funds can still purchase and shoot their 25,000 dollar shot guns, but one charge of DUI in some states and your banned for the rest of your life. to me that doesnt seem fair and if you serve your time and pay your penalties your right to protection should automatically be restored. if your deemed safe enough to not be in prison and be out walking the streets obviously they dont think your that dangerous, but yet your still too dangerous to be able to own a firearm. would like to hear other peoples opinions on this as i am thinking about starting a petition to congress to eliminate the federal lifetime firearm ban for non violent offenders.

Actually... !
I didn't even know this was an American policy. Does this rule happen to also include general hunting-style fire-arms ? |

Yanno...
You have the same rights to a defense attorney, that "rich" folks have. When in doubt, a cap and ball pistol, will kill a home intruder just as dead, as any modern firearm. |

In Texas, one single cartridge will send an ex-felon back to prison

so what is your stance on the matter rockgnome, do u think non violent offenders should be barred for life from owning a firearm even though they complete their sentence?

so what is your stance on the matter rockgnome, do u think non violent offenders should be barred for life from owning a firearm even though they complete their sentence? Let me start with, your attorney was a moron. Do you currently have an attorney? That one is a moron too. Hire an attorney to serve your interest. What I will say, is if you knowingly commit a crime of any type, expect to lose some rights. For example, convicted felons lose the right to VOTE, and your concern is gun rights? |

if a group of men invade your home all armed with modern pistols and you have a cap and ball pistol thats not a fight your going to win. Wanna bet? So... Two stoopid dufuses bring me glocks for my birthday? First problem they'll encounter, dogs. Lots and lots of dogs. Some mine, some not. Element of surprise is effectively gone. State law says that I can put a bullet into their heads, before they even get to my house. I'll match a pair of cap and ball pistols against two idiots with glocks, any day of the week. |

Prison industry is a booming business. Every felon created generates revenue AND strips another citizen of the "right" to vote and bear arms. Figure that one out.
