Two white students were barred from a meeting of the Racialized Students’ Collective March 11.
First-year journalism students Trevor Hewitt and Julia Knope were told that because they were not victims of racialization, they were not allowed to stay in the meeting room and report on the event. if its a support group, Im not sure how they work
are non alcoholics welcome at alcoholics anonymous? are men allowed at mommy groups? ,,,Id have to know more what type of meetings they were,,but the link is to a video.. my personal preference is if one is talking about problems in their community, only community members need be present if one is talking about problems between communities, members of te involved communities should be present it can be a learning opportunity , for instance, for an alcoholic to hear how the non alcoholics around him/her are affected as well as for the non alcoholics to hear what they can do to be part of the solution |

Sounds to me like they are now victims of racialization, so they should be allowed to attend.

From the posted article ... The initial conversation was tense, yet tempered. One commenter, TedErling wrote early on, “As a black man it sickens me that white people were kicked out. Racism can happen to anyone. MLK would be sick.” As I stated earlier, some people cannot see a double standard. The true test of such a standard is to have a 'white only' meeting and see how the blacks react... as if there was any doubt.

The RSU regularly holds events that it says are intended as “safe spaces,” through the RSC and other campus equity groups such as the Centre for Women and Trans People.
A safe space in the public realm is where marginalized people can share their views and experiences free of judgment.
