Jokes aside, pencil skirts were the norm in the office where I used to work. We had dress codes and we were not even allowed to wear pants unless we were required to go in during the weekends. You would look so much more professional in them than flared or other skirts. Though the mini were also favored by the younger gen....obviously men love that more!! 
I've got one very similar to the red one above.

I wear kitten heels with my going out dresses, timberland boots wouldn't be a good look with a sexy dress lol
