True, Christendom has become much more tolerant with its varied congregations. To the point that some would argue that, that is negligent. At the far-end of the spectrum we have horrific events like the Spanish Inquisition or worse yet, just how vehemently Catholics fought Catholic like at the Battle Of Towton during the War Of The Roses. 28,000 dead in ten hours of point-blank fighting, about 550 years ago, when Lancaster verse Yorkists. stupid people that didn't see that they were being manipulated.... the church loves the "faithfully blind" people... |

The Office of the Inquistion still exists under the name of Doctrinal Integrity, Pope Benedict was its head prior to becoming Pope. Without doubt the most ridiculous statement I've read on Mingle, ever |

The Office of the Inquistion still exists under the name of Doctrinal Integrity, Pope Benedict was its head prior to becoming Pope. Okay, I'm with Funkyfranky on this one... There is an 'office' called Doctrinal Integrity in the Vatican...? During the reign of which Pope Benedict? (Numerical Reference Needed Here) The Spanish Inquisition was first established in 1478. My previously mentioning the Battle Of Towton is actually 17 years before that. What was protestant reformation in England in the mid 1400s? Henry the 8th isn't even a glimmer in Henry the 7th's eye! |

I'm sorry to say Moe... Almost everybody was under conscription to go to these great blood-baths. It was the law in England that everyman even if they were a Peon had to learn to use a Field Bow or better yet the Long Bow. Because the War Of The Roses was about succession to the throne, alliances meant no quarter was given and none expected in return. (Only The Victors Aloud To Live) |

The Church didn't have much say in it.
If You lived in the vicinity of this Earl or that Lord... YOU'VE GOT TO BLOODY-WELL GO !!!!! |

Not that simple when 98% of the population were farmers, and the elite are well armed when they come to conscript them into service.

The act of 'shooting' with gun powder was more trouble than it was worth.
Tell You what Mightymoe... Just YOUTUBE, 'Battle Of Towton' and watch some re-enactments made in the U.K. I promise You'll find the full-length documentary very sobering. |
