Topic: The God Particle ... | |

"In the 1970s, physicists realized that there are very close ties between two of the four fundamental forces – the weak force and the electromagnetic force. The two forces can be described within the same theory, which forms the basis of the Standard Model. This “unification” implies that electricity, magnetism, light and some types of radioactivity are all manifestations of a single underlying force known as the electroweak force. The basic equations of the unified theory correctly describe the electroweak force and its associated force-carrying particles, namely the photon, and the W and Z bosons, except for a major glitch. All of these particles emerge without a mass. While this is true for the photon, we know that the W and Z have mass, nearly 100 times that of a proton. Fortunately, theorists Robert Brout, François Englert and Peter Higgs made a proposal that was to solve this problem. What we now call the Brout-Englert-Higgs mechanism gives a mass to the W and Z when they interact with an invisible field, now called the “Higgs field”, which pervades the universe. Just after the big bang, the Higgs field was zero, but as the universe cooled and the temperature fell below a critical value, the field grew spontaneously so that any particle interacting with it acquired a mass. The more a particle interacts with this field, the heavier it is. Particles like the photon that do not interact with it are left with no mass at all. Like all fundamental fields, the Higgs field has an associated particle – the Higgs boson. The Higgs boson is the visible manifestation of the Higgs field, rather like a wave at the surface of the sea." From CERN's webpage |

ah...
chasing the god particle... round and round as it goes. the only particle man it self cannot yet create. life particle hiding behind each physical form on the planet... no doubt once all data be added together the pieces of the puzzle of humankind will all fit perfectly together, that only simple prejudiced emotions kept from being added together already. constrained minds delimiting all that can exist. particles of life divided into billions of forms... but all fighting each other. a god particle only because man him self cannot yet duplicate it... so calls it god. seems the god particle be most only each life it self... not much wonder how humankind would not look at it self to find the dynamo and spark of creation. add together the sparks, create new creations of wonderment and amaze. but since humans don't sea the dazzling creation of each other, and all life forms, because many deny there be any creators at all, reducing magnificent creations into but random events spurred by random explosions. but it surely doth not appear such random explosions created random outcomes. but no doubt these experiments will lead inquiring minds back to the other human forms for the rest of the answers and humankind will live happily ever after creating new worlds and cosmos's. |

It's actually prosaically called the Higgs-Boson,was always called that, until some Bozo went and called it God-Particle! The name originated with some Science-Writer who had an Imagination run wild! |

hehehe...
yea, i know... as he was supposed to... to bring science and spirituality together as one. the wave of the future. the only way man will finish discovering what we seek, to unlock and unleash the grandest of all times for all mortals... the new platinum era... hehehe... happy worlds we shall create. peace brother |

Actually, all the particles are man made just like the nature made ones. We only have the ability to make a few at a time but the result is the same.
The problem isn't making the particle, it's detecting it before it decays into something else or just disappears. First we need a certain amount of energy to make mass. E=MCsquared. We needed the big accelerator at CERN to accelerate a proton to near the speed of light so it had a lot of mass. When we then turn all of it's mass back into energy by combining it with an accelerated anti-proton, all the mass converts to a pure energy pool that then condenses out all the same particles of which the universe (as we know it) is composed. The Higgs Boson was predicted to have 125 to 127 Gev or billion electron volts. The Higgs is a heavy particle so it needed a lot of energy to be created. All subatomic particles are identified to some extent by their energy/mass equivalent, usually expressed as electron volts (Gev). When you add up the energy of each known particle you can deduce the unknown particle if you compare it's energy/mass to the calculated value expected. This method is basically how the Higgs was found (along with having positive parity and zero spin). It should be noted that more than one type of Higgs Boson may exist! While the Higgs was predicted by the Standard Model of Physics, and this model works for the "easy stuff", there are holes in the theory dealing with gravity, what happens to the particles in a black hole, what causes a particle to condense out of pure energy to become what it becomes, or where some of them go when they "disappear". Why can't pure energy just exist as pure energy? (Hint: the pressure is too great.) What is the force pushing pure energy apart? The Higgs is a field, just like an electromagnetic field. In order for the mass it creates to affect (or create) gravity, it must distort space/time itself. The distortion is then perceived as gravity. From the spacetime-model.com website we get ... "Please also note that the closed volume of the particle is at the origin of the scalar potential associated to this "Newtonian Field in spacetime". So, contrary to the Higgs Field, The "Spacetime Model" explanation is in full agrement with the "Theory of Potential"." ... or in other words, if it distorts space/time then gravity is explained. |

To get to the particle, you must grab his testicles. That's one theory.
