The Assault Weapon Myth.... NYT Sunday Review .....in the 10 years since the previous ban lapsed, even gun control advocates acknowledge a larger truth: The law that barred the sale of assault weapons from 1994 to 2004 made little difference. It turns out that big, scary military rifles don't kill the vast majority of the 11,000 Americans murdered with guns each year. Little handguns do. Most Americans do not know that gun homicides have decreased by 49 percent since 1993 as violent crime also fell, though rates of gun homicide in the United States are still much higher than those in other developed nations. A Pew survey conducted after the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., found that 56 percent of Americans believed wrongly that the rate of gun crime was higher than it was 20 years ago. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/14/sunday-review/the-assault-weapon-myth.html?_r=0 |

Frankly, I see no reason for a civilian to have a military-style rifle when a normal rifle can be used for the same purpose.

Frankly, I see no reason for a civilian to have a military-style rifle when a normal rifle can be used for the same purpose. What is a "normal" rifle? and, what is the difference, beside some cosmetic changes? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruger_Mini-14 |

This is what my .308 I use for deer hunting looks like
This is the .308 I'm buying for deer hunting I'm buying the second one because I need a new one and I'm more comfortable with the feel of the second one. So is the second rifle not a "normal" one? |

Frankly, I consider the expression "assault weapon" to be a misnomer, because any weapon can be used to assault people.

The "difference of opinion" between those who think one gun might be OK but another is "too dangerous" is why the 2nd amendment exists.
