Wow, some pretty hard truth for sure...Must add this!!....Her words do not apply to the majority....At least not the men know.... |

I agree klc, its a social issue, not just female. But for females who accept it and males who do it.

her words apply to everyone, because she speaks of not 'letting' boys behave that way. Who else is 'letting' them, but other men and the rare women of influence in their lives? I hear you loud and clear, but I have a grandson, several nephews, two brothers, a slew of friends, a few ex's and a father (now deceased) who did not and do not "let" men behave in the manner she describes... Clearly a social issue, clearly one that not all men practice.... |

Seems to me that her poem is all about American black music and black culture. If you don't like that sort of music don't listen to it or go to those clubs. No newsflash though that pop stars are sex symbols and that the biggest sex symbols are the most successful pop stars. This whole thing just sounds like every post sexual revolution feminist rant. Kind of tedious. Taking the worst examples that you can find and then saying that everything else reinforces it. Women dancing and shaking their booties in music videos? Oh the humanity.

some folks are bound to miss the point, especially if they only listen for a few seconds. It wasn't THAT hard to follow klc.... |

some folks are bound to miss the point, especially if they only listen for a few seconds. exactly,,,the lyrics are powerful and though she gives the perspective of a woman of color dealing with men of color, the message isn't applicable to any one race of people at all but to all it happens across musical genres and across western culture,, as far as the objectifying of women goes,,,, |

That is bold indeed. I don't understand how anyone can respect this type of image. It sends the wrong message out to everyone not just women. |

Nah, sex symbols can be male or female and this sort of thing has been popular since Elvis took black music and popularised it for a white audience. Would you prefer it if women were told to cover themselves up and stop flaunting themselves in public?
It's somewhat absurd to say that there shouldn't be people dancing to dance music. |

Were there any dirty pictures there? Can I get a summary, my Safari can't open it. If it is a poem, can I get the lyrics? I don't feel I objectify women, in fact, many women get mad as I tend to only use the male pronoun to whoever I talk to male or female |

Where does one draw a line on the glorification of what's popular? I can't stand this behavior and anyone with a sense of morals and dignity knows better. What she does is not dancing coming from a dancer. |

What she does is not dancing coming from a dancer. Each to their own. I like Iggy Pop and he dances like a crazy fool, humps amplifiers and sometimes gets his knob out on stage. Sorry if you think that my liking that sort of music and finding rock star antics entertaining is immoral but in my opinion popular music is becoming bland enough as it is without a bunch of uptight people starting some anachronistic decency campaign. Also, who listens to gangster rap anyway? What is this? The eighties? |
