My sisters and I had dress ups when we were little. We'd put on the bride costume and make the dog, Wolfie, walk down the aisle with us as the groom.

Grandma and my aunts invited me to their quilting party. Grandma got me my own thimble, needle threader, scissors and showed me the basics. Dad built the quilting frame and I got to help him hang it from the ceiling. It could be rolled up when not in use. We used newspapers as backing and I got to cut out some of the newspapers for squares. It was real fun. It was almost as fun as our pea pod splitting parties.

Building blanket forts with blankets and clothes pins, neighborhood hide and go seek, camping with the family, road trip down to Disney Land in 1976.... Ooh, that reminds me we used to make snow forts out of the huge walls that the snowplows would push to the sides of the street. One year I think we even had one with different rooms, it was so big. One of the coolest things I remember is that my father made me a playhouse (it was just for ME, not for my brother too! :D) It had a door and windows and a bench seat and a counter inside. I loved that thing. |

Watching American Bandstand on Saturdays with Grandpa. (He died 1 week short of his 97th birthday.) He had his mind and lived independently up to the end. He never had a cross word to say about anyone. I was about 35 when he died and even when I would stop by for a visit on a Saturday, he would sometimes turn on American Bandstand for a bit and we would still watch it.
He was an incredible man. He died in 1984 and I still miss him dearly. |

Love. My parents' ways...among many memories:
My Dad's ways : helped out and let me know morning routine, getting to school- could be a smooth transition. He showed me how to lay out my clothes at night - in a certain space-so I just got dressed in the morning; showers at night time -always. My mom's ways: sewing my clothes along with making a doll my size; kindergarten. |
