I believe we need to take a step backward, before one can answer the question: What if Xianity doesn't work? and make certain operations definitions.
Does it work in terms of staking your hopes on some eternal hereafter? Of course, this question can not be clearly answered. Does it work in terms of supporting human life in addressing the following: -loneliness: "Without the correction, the reflection, the support of other presences, being is not merely unsafe; it is a horror" George MacDonald -against despair: "Hell is yourself, and the only redemption is when you put yourself aside to feel deeply for another person" Tennessee Williams -rescuing the past: "Agony, which is not denied to any man, is given to strange ways to children" Flannery O'Connor -success: "Time alone,oh time will tell. You think you're in heaven, but you're living in Hell" Bob Marley -sex: "Love, I thought, is stronger than death or fear of death. Only by it, by love, life holds together and advances" Ivan Turgenev -crucibles: "The towing rope binds the boat, but is the bondage its meaning? Yes I do, and believing and or following God's law that the world calls "Christianity" has absolutely nothing to do with, loneliness, despair, rescuing from past, success, rebirth, angels, or anything other then praising our creator, our God, Jesus Christ. It's not for anything to do with ourselves, it's all and entirely about uplifting our God and doing as he commands for he is God. It's not for any reward, after life, or anything of such. It has nothing to do with ourselves in itself, it has to do with again uplifting and worshiping our God. |

Just clarifying that it's not for those reason's and if it is for those specific reasons one follows our Christ, that would be along the lines of selfishness and for the gaining of oneself. And it has absolutely nothing to do with ourselves, it's all about God. |
