on a sidenote, a widening wealth disparity weakens the nation,,,wherever that nation is, and whatever the caste which the disparity affects,,,, racial, gender, or any other,,, Really, and just where did that wealth of knowledge come from, a Chinese fortune cookie? And is there a problem with complete thoughts? What is with all the little snippets, leading up to an attempt to switch the discussion to either race or gender specifics? it was a complete thought, I'm sure anyone with even an elementary education could figure it out "a widening wealth disparity weakens the nation" "wealth disparity" is the SUBJECT being discussed and performing the verb "weakens" is the VERB, and "the nation" is the OBJECT which the verb acts upon "wherever the nation is, and whichever the caste which the disparity affects" are called PREPOSITIONAL PHRASES(wherever and whichever being the prepositions) "racial ,gender, or any other" was added to give examples of types of castes RACIAL being specifically mentioned in the OP and GENDER being one that the mingler starting this thread most often refers to herself,,, Well can't argue with that, elementary would be absolutely correct. Snippets, that when put together convey little. |

There is a wealth disparity in the US. It's caused by the ones that want to work, get educated, get ahead and the ones who don't. I would say that would only be part of the story. To complete the story one would need to mention the intentions of the ones that don't, the demands to have what those that do have without the effort. Now comes those glorious rights of the ballot box, the box that gives forever. All one need to do is pretend this is a democracy and instill mob rule, the mob of the entitlement crowd. The ones that have every excuse in the book. The ones that need a safety net. And that safety net is those that will. And all you have to do is give it a hundred fifty years or so and viola, you have these united States as we know them today. |

So only if you are the best in the world can you be a superpower? That would mean only 1 country could ever hold that title at one time. If our country was so bad we wouldn't have an immigration problem like we do. To think that people can not make something of themselves is just an excuse. Can you be a millionaire just because you work hard? No. Do some people have more access? Sure. I poor kid born in NYC has a better chance of becoming an actor on broadway than a kid from Kentucky. That doesn't mean the kid from Kentucky can't achieve the same thing. IDK where you live or what opportunities you've had that leads you to think EVERYBODY has the same chances just because this IS America... but it's NOT that way here in Alabama... and I speak from personal experience... here, the men think they still have absolute control over women and the right to beat us if we step out of their line... here, the men created a master/slave contract in which they enslaved a woman to a large corporation without her knowledge or consent for the remainder of her natural life and actually aid and abet in her physical and emotional abuse (torturing)... here, they gang up and take away opportunities and deliberately hold you down while maligning your character... here, if and when you contact all your elected officials, even those in Washington DC to let them know what's really still going on when the civil rights fight was allegedly won decades ago... they ALL ignore your plight or simply "wish you the best but there's nothing they can do"... so please, before you think that people who can't get ahead are just making "excuses" for why they don't, you should look at things from the perspective of those of us that are being treated extremely bad by our own countrymen first. Did you even read what I wrote? Your first sentence says you didnt. I even give an example of how someone has a better chance that someone else based on circumstances beyond their control. I said that just because your chances are not the same doesn't mean you can't achieve it. BTW I grew up in Louisiana. A state people like to make fun of for poor people and poorer education, chronic medical condition since 8, abusive father, and now an engineering degree and a 6 figure household income. Yea I may not have had the same chances as others but that doesn't mean I couldn't make something of myself. In fact they were motivation. The world works differently for MEN! And I did read everything you said. Because you were able to pull yourself up and out you naturally think other people can too and if they don't they're just making an excuse for being a failure. I'm happy for you that life allowed you to find your way. But for a lot of us it doesn't. More so for us women. Sure, I hear about how a lot of women that I've met online have made a good life for themselves. But they don't live where I do and haven't faced the blatant discrimination that I've faced, so they, like you, can't even begin to identify with what it's really like here. And I'm not the only woman being treated badly by my peers. Or the men around here. I'm an outsider and it's a cultural thing. Two strikes against me right from the gate. Well my wife doesn't seem to have that trouble. She is a non citizen and has only had her green card for a year now. She already makes the statistical average for American workers plus has completely free health and dental from her job. (minus her tiny $650 deductible) So I think if a non american non native English speaker can do it so can other women. Then again not everyone has people like me encouraging them. |

My ex is from Alabama and I don't think this was ever my case. I too feel for the ones that can't seem to get themselves out of situations but there are times when you can only stick up for yourself cause no one else will. If it's that bad please walk away. My personal experience here in Alabama has been a true test of my faith. Not all of it has been bad. But the part of it that has been is so bad that I cannot simply throw my hands up and walk away from it. When anyone is being unjustly accused, mistreated, or used as a scapegoat to cover up for the ways of others, or as a means to their ends, standing firm and exposing the injustice is sometimes all we can do in the hopes that others will think twice about pulling this same stunt on somebody else. |

What you describe about your wife sounds like current day circumstances. And I'm very happy to hear modern day women might be having it a little easier. What I'm talking about began in 1986 and is still being perpetuated by the same group of now old men that had ill intent towards me back then. And during the nearly 30 years since all they've done is honed their vindictive skills to a subtlety while schooling the younger men coming up after them to be just as manipulative, deceitful, and damaging. I learned decades ago NEVER to say anything I can't prove beyond a shadow of a doubt or by the preponderance of the evidence. Because when men have each other's backs, and its a woman they intend to attack, to either put her in her place, teach her a lesson she'll never forget, or control her to keep her mouth shut so she can't continue to expose them and their antiquated and woeful behavior then the woman often times doesn't stand a chance. My parents weren't from Alabama and never taught me that my place is to bow down and cower to abusers, bullies, liars, and crooks. |

I don't necessarily think its about race as much as it is about keeping people poor thus making one more subservient It is said that one day the meek shall inherit the world and maybe we have no further to look than the meek little mouse we have laying beneath our hand for in knowledge lies power..ASC.. |
