Explain how you can have the concept of good without the bad and you'll answer your own question.

Example purposes only, I understand not everyone will like the "good" in the examples or even possibly the "bad".

How would say Lemonade taste "good" if you had never tasted something "bad"? Why would it stand out as "good" if you had never tasted the contrary?

If one thing is all you know through life in context of the discussion, then how would you ever contemplate the contrary if you had never experienced it or heard of it or anything along those lines?

Say someone prefers the warmth, to them it is good. But how would they know the warmth is good if they never felt cold?

Lemonade? I thought we were talking about something much deeper here than taste buds, (just kidding) but even so, you can tell by tasting it it is sour. You don't necessarily have to have previously experienced bitterness. Your taste buds will will inform you of this.

The philosopher Augustine theorized "Nothing evil (bad) exists in itself, but only as an evil aspect of some actual entity."

He meant that good and bad are related, but are not symmetrical. You can have good without bad, however, he believed bad cannot exist without good.

What gives meaning to life is love that is freely given in any form.
Slobbery kisses from your dog. Sticky hugs from a little kid. Getting my mom's blessing as I head out the door. A warm hug from a friend. Or passionate love from your other half.

the best thing in life must be having a family with someone you love. the worst maybe being tied up in some serial killers basement after getting your heart broken (sorry to sound so morbid). any ideas what may be the best or worst situation to live in?

... any ideas what may be the best or worst situation to live in?

There's that saying that goes - "I rather be poor & happy then to be rich & miserable." No matter what situation you're in - Grab life by it's balls & yank it. Not so hard. Just don't get carried away with the metaphors. Cheers!

You put you left foot in, you put your left foot out. You put your left foot in, and you shake it all about. You do the hoakey pokey and you turn yourself around, and that is what it's all about.

Whenever someone brings up the rather ambiguous question, What is the meaning of life, I generally always go back to Descartes and his Cartesian view as a foundational premise of viewing them with the quote "Cogito ergo Sum": Ren Descartes is often credited with being the Father of Modern Philosophy. This title is justified due both to his break with the traditional Scholastic-Aristotelian philosophy prevalent at his time and to his development and promotion of the new, mechanistic sciences. His fundamental break with Scholastic philosophy was twofold. First, Descartes thought that the Scholastics’ method was prone to doubt given their reliance on sensation as the source for all knowledge. Second, he wanted to replace their final causal model of scientific explanation with the more modern, mechanistic model.

Descartes attempted to address the former issue via his method of doubt. His basic strategy was to consider false any belief that falls prey to even the slightest doubt. This “hyperbolic doubt then serves to clear the way for what Descartes considers to be an unprejudiced search for the truth. This clearing of his previously held beliefs then puts him at an epistemological ground-zero. From here Descartes sets out to find something that lies beyond all doubt. He eventually discovers that “I exist” is impossible to doubt and is, therefore, absolutely certain. It is from this point that Descartes proceeds to demonstrate God’s existence and that God cannot be a deceiver. This, in turn, serves to fix the certainty of everything that is clearly and distinctly understood and provides the epistemological foundation Descartes set out to find.

Once this conclusion is reached, Descartes can proceed to rebuild his system of previously dubious beliefs on this absolutely certain foundation. These beliefs, which are re-established with absolute certainty, include the existence of a world of bodies external to the mind, the dualistic distinction of the immaterial mind from the body, and his mechanistic model of physics based on the clear and distinct ideas of geometry. This points toward his second, major break with the Scholastic Aristotelian tradition in that Descartes intended to replace their system based on final causal explanations with his system based on mechanistic principles. Descartes also applied this mechanistic framework to the operation of plant, animal and human bodies, sensation and the passions. All of this eventually culminating in a moral system based on the notion of generosity.

Pardon me if I can not quote it verbatim:

Life is a path we travel.
Along the way, there will be many things on the path to help us out, tech us lessons, & warn us.
The small round stones give us soothing guidance & foundation.
The sharp jagged ones remind us of important lessons to help get us back on track.
Then there are the pretty twinkling jewels to make our travels brighter & remind us to find our joys.

May you all have a wonderful walk down your own path.

Life is for living, not regretting

"Life is lived forwards but understood backwards"

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we should dance..

No,I didn't write those things!
They have just accumulated in a Folder on my Computer over time!

Einstein said that those who see no meaning in life are not fit to live. I usually like old Al. and his musings, but I have to disagree here. I don't think that there is a point to life. We live, and as living, have a responsibility to other mankind for the sake of lovingness and empathy and reciprocity. But we do good or humans are eliminated, either way, the world, the cosmos goes on the same in the bigger scheme things nothing is affected, no point is made.

Why are we breeding and training our kids to be good? Morality is only needed if some person is angry or upset. If you have a happy person, he is not going to strike out. If he is happy because he is doing what he likes, he don't do bad, he won't do good, he will just do what is needed. This will help everything and all around him. If he is doing what he enjoys, what would he do some harm for? It would just bring him down from his good moods and high spirits. If a kid gets love, he needs no morality, he will naturally like doing what is good anyway.

And not having any meaning, any point, it is kind of liberating. It becomes what you make of it. Do amazing in your life, okay, don't make it but tried, still okay. But strive to overcome limitations, that is key. That's all I care about when it comes to this life I have anyway.
