IN THE PALM OF YOUR HANDS

Ten tiny fingers,
Ten tiny toes,
Coloboma blue eyes,
A perky pudgy nose.

Pursed little lips,
A hand that can sign,
A head full of raven hair,
Gosh I'm just so glad he's mine.

A lick upon my face,
Short fingers grasping mine,
To play patty cake,
Or to clap out a new rhyme.

Teaching and laughing,
Bouncing with joy,
Down syndrome or not,
What a wonderful boy!

Thank God for small miracles,
Praise God for such bliss,
A forever family,
A gooey hug and fish lip kiss.

Each child is but a vessel,
Of God's greater plan,
Teaching compassion,
In the palms of our hand.

One wee little minute,
Can change a whole life,
A child, a teacher....A husband or wife.
So many similarities,

Normal eyes sometimes can't see,
Down syndrome is a name,
Love is all there needs to be.
The child knows no difference,

So take the time today...
To hug and love with all of your heart,
Take some time to play.
You can change tomorrow,

Look within the palm of your own hands,
YOU alone can make a difference,
One day the child becomes a man.
Make a crease of your own in the life of a child....

It's in the palm of your hands!

This poem is dedicated to my adopted son with Down syndrome. He was born with a crease in the palm of his hand as most kids with Down syndrome are. Noah and I will be participating in a BUDDY WALK soon to raise money for kids like him.
