Missing my boys today
A ride with Jet. So many years ago. Almost seems like a lifetime ago. Man could I use a ride today. I so miss his big heart. |

He was such a big boy.
I had to use a step stool just to get a foot in the stirrup. |

Time for a bath

Here's my buddy Whitey, Journey. He wasn't the best I ever rode, but definitely the most willing.
The man on the bay in front, was my grand-dad. His ashes are scattered in the valley above his hat. Sorry about the quality. Pic of a pic. |

What a great shot Just Nice looking horse. Man what I would give for a ride today!!! What a great tribute. I imagine he would have wanted nothing less than to be in that valley. |

Anew Saltwater Chief
My stallion Jet's son from a breeding before Jet was gelded. Stout and just the right height for me. He was a quick learner and willing to do anything |

Apache', he would fly like a bird if he could
He would dump me at the drop of a hat Never meaning too but would spook at the least little thing Off I would come as he bolted out from under me Always coming back and asking me why I was on the ground..lol An amazing teacher this horse was! Jet, was fearless and bold His trust in a man was lost because of his abusive past His trust in me however was something words cannot explain He loved foals and would race to protect them Under saddle he was calm, proud, sure of himself and listened intently Don't get me wrong, he dumped me once but it was my fault I didn't know the sign he had given me at the time. If he moaned when you mounted it was time to get off! Adjust the saddle and try again. Lesson Learned!! Trust me, when you get tossed into the air from the seat of a 16.3 h horse, you know you have been thrown! Chief, yes an energetic thing he was Full of spunk and energy as a foal Rearing was his thing back then and a dangerous thing when on the lead. A few simple lessons brought to you by imitating a mad mare and he became a gentleman Nothing bothered this fellow either Oh my happy place has returned for a moment today To smell the flesh of a horse The smell of the leather That is all that is needed to finish these happy place thoughts |
