Topic: NTY: Racial Micro-aggression? | |

its a nonsense term,,, and
I am PERSONALLY suspicious of the motives of those who use it like I said, its just as easy to see color and not judge others by it as it is to have some fictitious condition called 'colorblind' and not judge others by color,,, |

i just see racism now as a political way to get what they want... barry doesn't get his way, he cries racism... pretty much anyone that's not white uses the wolf crying technique to it's max, not really caring who or what they walk on to get their way...
biden: "the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy." not racist, just stupid and using this statement as a political tool... i guess colon powel, condolezza rice, jessie jackson, and all the other black people in congress could/should be a bit upset at this, but they all know how politics works... But let's face it - it's considered racist for whites to treat any trait as "black." If we accept that, then we can't turn around and say they're racists to look at black people as just people. That particular aspect of the microaggression notion seems fixed so that whites can't do anything right. thats the point there... ^^^ |

smh
then we can't turn around and say they're racists to look at black people as just people. black people are seen as 'black' people , or they couldn't constantly be discussed as 'black' people and, once again, it is not mutually exclusive to see black people as people and not see 'traits' as black trait there is no 'trait' that any race has a monopoly on, people are diverse RACE goes beyond nationality and has billions of people around the world who have diverse cultures and traditions and 'tendencies' |
RACE goes beyond nationality That is because "race" is an artificial social construct. |
so is 'class', but yet it has defined parameters
and 'race' , likewise defined , is a social construct upon which we identify and discuss people daily,,, |
just like some see the term 'white priviledge' with equal disdain,,, That is because the term is code used to express anti-White racism. |

Regarding the topic of the OP, I agree that racial micro-aggression occurs. However, it is something that is practiced more often than the NYT article implies.
For example, the expression "white privilege" is a form of racial micro-aggression. Assuming that a white person is privileged because that person is white is akin to assuming that a black Harvard student got into Harvard because of affirmative action. Both forms of racial micro-aggression belittle the person by implying that the person didn't earn what the person has. |

Both forms of racial micro-aggression belittle the person by implying that the person didn't earn what the person has. this is a good example, because even at Harvard, one had to EARN their slot as AA seeks to only account for 'previously proven discrimination',, , in SPITE of AA, applicants still have some requirements to beat out other applicants white priviledge accounts for the previous 'PRIVILEGE' afforded to a demographic because of RACE,, passed down through birth due to RACE and continuing to affect racial demographics and culture today the past leads to the present,, they cant simply be disconnected,,,, |

white priviledge accounts for the previous 'PRIVILEGE' afforded to a demographic because of RACE,, passed down through birth due to RACE and continuing to affect racial demographics and culture today the past leads to the present,, they cant simply be disconnected,,,, Well, I can't stop you from continuing to use the racial micro-aggression that is displayed by a claim of "White privilege". |

that's true
like those who are born with all their limbs can take certain Privileges/advantages for granted that those without them usually don't and cant those born into a culturally 'white' society, founded by 'white' people, to represent mostly 'white' people,, can take certain pivileges/advantages of that social position for granted that those without it cant and don't and the only ones of either group that are 'blind' to color are those without sight the rest are just refusing to admit they see it, by claiming a 'blindness' |

I know of a white male Human who grew up in a racially-mixed neighborhood, who attended racially-mixed schools, who worked for racially-mixed employers, and he didn't have any "privilege" that wasn't also available to the black Humans he interacted with on a daily basis. In fact, plenty of those same black Humans were far more successful than he was. |
