Aww, (((Lowrange))) sorry to hear 'bout your foot. Did you catch the ice cream truck? No ice cream would have made me cry. You could have used the ice to keep the swelling down and the stick as a splint. |

When last did anything or anyone made you cry and when, why, where, how? That would be telling . Didn't go as far as crying into my Cornflakes or anything , just had a "moment " . Tears are healing. |

There weren't any chairs left to sit on at this cafe I was doing some work at. An older couple in their 70s had walked in. I believe one of them, her husband was from the mid west, she grew up in the LA county (the valley area). They came near me and looked around and noticed that I was stationed at the bigger table with a couple of free chairs. I took off my earphones and noticed they were looking at me. They asked if it was ok if they could sit down, I said sure and moved my things aside to make room for them on the other end.
While her husband went to go order their cafe treats and beverages, the older woman began speaking aloud, not loudly just speaking about something on her mind. Then I noticed she was talking about the weather and was looking at me, waiting for me to respond. I stammered before agreeing with her, (hardly anyone does this anymore here) then we began talking about California and she mentioned her husband was from Chicago and how it's so different where he's from weather-wise, the people are different, it's a beautiful city. While they waited for their order I noticed they were constantly looking at each other. She was walking with a cane and he was looking to see if she was in any pain. She and I were talking briefly until her husband came back with their treats and lattes. They ate in a silence but would mention about their grand kids and how much they've grown up and how life is just too fast for them sometimes. They even stopped in the middle of it to ask me if I was in summer school. I smiled and told them I was not in school and that I was currently working and I write on the side. They smiled back and said their eldest daughter is a writer too. She didn't stop reading and writing growing up. They said I remind them of their daughter, who's grown up and has kids of her own. The rest of the next few moments were fairly quiet. I was in the midst of working and I didn't want to disturb their company. I had a feeling they've been in each others lives for a long time. Probably from their early 20s to now. Just the way he looked at her, how she talked to him, I felt like they completely knew each other. They were friends, it was obvious how close they were. She challenges him and he throws it right back at her. It made me laugh a few times and they noticed I was smiling. I would peak at them as they spoke to each and realized I could listen to these two all day and not be bored for a second. Their discussions were calming. When they were finished, she began to stand up and her husband started to help her. I removed my earphones and asked them if they needed help opening the door. I was already there by the time both of them were near the exit. The older woman turned to me and said, "thank you for offering the table and chairs we appreciate it and keep writing, don't ever stop." I smiled slightly and waved as they walked together outside with his arm around her frail body. I could tell he wasn't leaving her side. I watched them walk together for another moment before I went back to my seat. I couldn't believe any of that happened. I touched under my eyes and realized what I was doing. I had to cover it up with my sunglasses since I was in public. |
