Dennis Rodman has checked into an undisclosed alcohol rehabilitation center to treat his long-time struggle with alcoholism, his agent says.

Darren Prince declined on Saturday to say which facility will treat Rodman and how long he will be there. Rodman recently returned to the United States from his latest trip to North Korea.

He later apologized for comments he made in North Korea about a detained American missionary, saying he had been drinking and was under pressure as he organized an exhibition game there. He also sang "Happy Birthday" to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at the start of the friendly game.

"What was potentially a historic and monumental event turned into a nightmare for everyone concerned," Prince said. "Dennis Rodman came back from North Korea in pretty rough shape emotionally. The pressure that was put on him to be a combination `super human' political figure and `fixer' got the better of him.

"He is embarrassed, saddened and remorseful for the anger and hurt his words have caused."

Rodman won five NBA championships with the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls and was one of the NBA's fiercest rebounders and most colorful personalities. Detroit selected Rodman in the second round of the 1986 draft out of Southeastern Oklahoma. The native of Trenton, N.J., also played for Chicago, San Antonio, the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas. He was enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in of 2011.

He stamped his name on "Dennis Rodman -- The original Bad *** Premium Vodka," late last year. It was in the works before his relations with North Korea, but has taken off since.

Rodman, known as much for his piercings, tattoos and bad behavior as he was for basketball, was the highest-profile American to meet Kim since Kim inherited power from father Kim Jong Il in 2011. He traveled to the secretive state for the first time last February with the Harlem Globetrotters for an HBO series produced by New York-based VICE television.

But the 52-year-old Rodman has been denounced for not trying to use his influence with Kim to secure the release of Kenneth Bae, an American missionary with health problems who is being held in North Korea on charges of "anti-state" crimes.

He organized a group of retired NBA players to travel to North Korea for that exhibition game. Rodman dedicated the contest to his "best friend" Kim, who along with his wife and other senior officials and their wives watched from a special seating area. The capacity crowd of about 14,000 at the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium clapped loudly as Rodman sang a verse from the song.

Rodman had an angry meltdown before the game on CNN, defending his decision to travel to North Korea.

"People forget Dennis is just an entertainer and retired NBA star," Prince said. "The fact remains that a basketball game was played in North Korea live in front of 14,000 people and hundreds of millions around the world viewed clips of the game."

Awwwwwww, poor Rodman. The a$$hole should be put in prison not the hospital. He committed treason against the United States providing comfort and propaganda materials for the brutal North Korean Regime.

In a country where concentration camps, concentration death camps with gas chambers many modeled after the Nazi German camps (on a side not the Leader of North Korea hands out Mein Kampf to all members of the military and it is one of the top books sold and downloaded in that country.

Now he is having a breakdown and substance abuse issues because of this. This was something everyone his fans, management and spokes people, other players and even he US Government warned\told him not to go. Hell all the other players immediately flew back after the game. They were initially planning on staying until Rodman came back but they saw the Regime as the evil, sick and twisted criminals they really are.

At the very least the US Government had the perfect in to get intelligence in North Korea with this Basketball stuff, but Rodman Refused. Then the comments he made about the jailed American missionary was just cruel and sick. If he and the leader of North Korea are so tight he probably could have gotten him released from prison and brought him home with him. Instead Rodman said disgusting, rude and hurtful things about the missionary and criticized him for entering North Korea. Rodman had a chance to be a hero for once in his life. F you Dennis Rodman!

Dennis Rodman seems like an interesting man. North Korea has been facing a lot of turmoil and terrible hardships. The Communist regime of North Korea and Communism are not working in North Korea. Something to think about is North Korea's appearances as a nation which doesn't pose a threat... I could say in terms of nuclear weaponry/nuclear devastation . What is interesting is when people / nations don't have an expectation by others to be having a dangerous ability or capable of causing devastation... horrible things can happen. In Germany the Nazi Party was one of maybe over a hundred parties and people thought the Nazi Party would not last... obviously the Nazi Party did last and expectations might have been changed. I gave an example different from North Korea, but people should be aware of certain ideas and certain things. Not that im condoning war, but North Korea could end up being like Germany. People thought Germany was not so dangerous. Britain allowed Germany to extend militaryarsonals.

North Korea is indeed a threat. They have nuclear weapons(which they test yearly to show the world they have them. They also have missiles capable of reaching parts of the United States of America and North Korea is run by a mad man who had his own Uncle, his closest family member to him his whole life brutally executed but being eaten by hungry dogs.

Sister of American jailed in North Korea 'outraged' by Rodman's actions

The sister of an American citizen being held in North Korea says she is "outraged" by Dennis Rodman's visit to Pyongyang for a game on leader Kim Jung Un's birthday and his comments about the jailed missionary during a bizarre television interview.

Rodman sang "Happy Birthday" to Kim before leading a squad of former NBA stars onto the court at a Pyongyang stadium on Wednesday for a game Rodman said is part of his "basketball diplomacy" with the North that has been heavily criticized in the United States.

Asked in a CNN satellite interview on Tuesday whether he would raise the issue of Kenneth Bae, who is being held in North Korea on charges of "anti-state" crimes, Rodman yelled in response, "I don't give a rat's *** what the hell you think."

I bet he's being secretly interrogated for intel by the secret service and the whole alcohol rehabilitation thing is just a ruse.
