My friend just called me in tears about her son wanting a Barbie for Christmas! I was surprised by her reaction because he never went for the traditional male toys when went to the malls? He is a sweetheart of a chid. I asked her whats the problem? Get him the doll...its what he wants! She flips out on me! ok... She is upset so I dont want to upset her further. Why cant the kid have a doll? If he is or isnt gay...a doll isnt going to help or hurt ! Am I right?

I do think kids are still 'discovering' themselves that young,

I personally would do more to expose him to options that are masculine in nature,,,,possibly get him the Barbie and ken as a SET, so he can be exposed to both the male and female doll,, instead of streamlined into just females at that young of an age,,,

just me though

On imdb I once looked at the thread for the movie Rambo. The last one made that is. This idiot talked about how him and his son watched the movie and how he was so bother that Rambo was catching snakes that he spent something like half an hour to an hour talking to his son about the dangers of snakes. This was a person who probably did more harm to his kid by reacting in such a way to a scene in a movie that probably wouldn't have meant much of anything to the kid.

Lewis black did a bit on Janet Jackson's tit popping out during the superbowl and how reporters or callers were saying it was damaging to their kids to have seen that. He made a point to say that the only way it was damaging to kids was if their parents freaked out over it.

Chances are she's already freaked her kid out by reacting the way she did. It would have been smarter for her to ask him why he wanted one, provided he could say why he wanted it, and then decide if she wanted to get that for him or not. It could just be something familiar from his friends, it could be something like sexual exploration or any number of things. Chances are even if she didn't get it for him. But got something she thought was better for a boy with out freaking out. The kid would forget about the doll because he was having fun with what ever he got.

If anything I would be more concerned about a little girl wanting to have and look like a Barbie doll since the Barbie Princess theory would bother me just as much. How many normal women look like Barbie? None naturally.

This was my thought! I never instictively bought my girls a barbie unless they specifically asked for one.

They never did. They liked the crying baby dolls, or the dolls that you could do their hair and make up.

My son was typical boy... helicopters, smashing trucks but you can believe that if my baby wanted a barbie, I would have gotten him a barbie and handed it to him with a smile!

My friend still hasn't called me... so I'm thinking she's gonna be P'SSED off at me until after Christmas.

Oh well... I guess that easy bake oven I got him won't be acceptable now:tongue:

Joking....

I suspect that the Easy-Bake Oven is now obsolete due to U.S. law preventing the sale and manufacture of the component in the oven that produces the required heat . . . the incandescent light bulb.

It's not a doll, it's an action figure.

LET THE CHILDREN LAUGH AND PLAY !
Not the end of the world
IF they choose to be gay
Success and joy
In their life
We SHOULD pray...

"I'm OK.....YOU'RE OK ?"

"Well ya craked the sky..
Scrapers fill the air
Will ya keep on building higher
Until there's no more room up there
will you tell us when to live
And will ya tell us when to die... iy iy I
Oh yeah...we've come a long ways
But tell me..where do the children play"

You could super charge that easy bake over on get a heat light for a reptile cage. I wouldn't say that incandescent bulbs are obsolete personally I prefer the regular Reveal light bulbs.

Right! People are born gay. I have
a gay cousin and I heard stories. My one aunt
would say to my other aunt "eel
grow up 'funny' ee will, if you keep letting him
play with dolls love.Thats just an ignorant statement.

So the main issue is your friend is put out with you.
Well you can just say your right..just give him
a good wallowing next time he protest when you say no
and assure her the quickest way to learn is through pain.
OR
not to worry as its likely just instinct just as
much as many 3+ yrs girls want a baby doll to nurture.
as puppy wants to dig a hole or hump a leg, a little boy wants to play with all his sisters dolls and strip then of their clothes.
Thats a sure way to tell if he's going to be gay.
You give him 3 or 4 barbies to play with and all the extra outfits, Strait boys will pull all the clothes off and scatter then around the bedroom. The future gay one will eventually but he will lay all the jackets and pants ect, neatly out and DRESS THEM and with no fashion fopa's think
TRUE. She may be pretty sure of something alreay?
Its not that you play with dolls, its how you
play with dolls! Pony quote ;~)

I was always getting in trouble for plays with
my sisters tea set, easy bake oven and riping all
the clothes off all the barbies.ohwell
My 5 year old was always perving out on the Victoria
Secret magazines, he loved them,So i just had to ask him if he liked them slaphead then He actually said "what if I took off the top and you took off the bottomswhat its just instinctive behavior,
the apple doesn't fall for from the tree.
Tee, your friend may need time, she has a right to be devastated, or be upset about it she needs to go through perhaps a denile stage before she grounds and
enters an exceptance stage. Its perfectly fine for her
to say no to a kid. I agree with jack, I wouldn't buy my boy a doll but certainly be mindful of the
sign. IN any case if one shows all the signs and
parents fail to recognize or remain in a dental
state then I just hope the teen has someone like
an aunt or a friend like you around.its a sensitive
area right now and NO!works. It also protects the child
from possibly been different and that is very important and that takes presidence.

ta be kind"
