Topic: How you feel about nicknaming (endearment)?

I've had friends who use terms like that naturally and it is quite sweet, whereas there are others that attempt the same thing but they just sound creepy.

In terms of partners using terms of endearment, I prefer it if it's something personal to you both. Like I have a friend who calls me "libélula" sometimes. I find it really sweet as it sounds beautiful when pronounced correctly (he's a Spaniard living in Manchester), and it's personal to me because of my love of dragonflies and having one tattooed on my wrist.

He calls you libelula? Thats terrible, that's a big
flying bug. I think labiavulva is prettier
and would make more Sense to call a woman
and when I'm upset with her a could just
call her ;'_#^'€@-€# , for short.noway

@kartagane: I must admit, I do use "darling" with children. I see a lot of them at work and it's become a term of endearment (which neither child nor parents seem to mind) though, I think originally it was a little tongue-in-cheek... it feels quite natural now though.

Well I think in those situations it can be appropriate as long as the parents do not mind. And the terms do not bother me if I on some emotional level with the speaker, but strangers it just seems very awkward.

Also, libélula is very beautiful, I am partial to răsărit though. bigsmile

Call me baby if you are apologising for something!

Hon,dear,darling,babe,pretty,etc,etc...NO! Every one else calls every one else that!

I love it if a man uses my real name or half of my real name-especially half of my real name! Its only one of my big sisters who calls me half my real name and my late brother used to do so too! But,i love it!

Most people dont even know how to pronounce my name correctly and others use half of it spelt wrong!!

I have a "mother" who uses darling, sweetheart,my love, love with every person she wants something from! Its something she uses to corrupt that person before she asks for something! And then, you cant refuse by even the way she sweetens these endearments!

I feel soooooo cheap when she uses them on me!!

For the longest time I only went by half of my name besides by my parents when they were mad. Or by girlfriends who were trying to turn me on. Now I have to wear a nametag at work so everyone and there mother either abbreviates it or calls me by the first half of my name which I always hated going by. laugh

It's not terrible - some bugs are beautiful! I certainly think dragonflies and damselflies are anyway.

I have no idea what that word means...

Just wondering how people feel about it if your partner uses a nickname (a lot), which could be part of your own name, but also things like sweetie, hun or whatever silly name someone can come up with as a term of endearment.
The thought crossed my mind as I know from experience there are people who absolutely hate it.

I kind of like it myself but if someone was to call me "darling" or "hun" all the time, I wouldn't like it. Would make me feel as if he'd forgotten my name.

So how do you feel about it?
