An emotional feeling reinforced by attractional compatibilities, supported with the urge and natural mindset of companionship.
....3^1= 3 They appear to be one thing but, are infact still many. The magic number for most things within this physical dimension. A linear perspective will lead you into thinking its only 1 thing, often this is not the case. |

If you are talking about... I see that person from across the room and am smitten, then he/she smiles at me and the world melts away as I am drawn to walk towards he/she... That isn't love.... Love, true love, takes years in the making. It comes from being sick and being cared for and vice versa... being there throughout the ups and downs in life for one another. It comes from a mixture of experiences, feelings, memories, etc. bestowed upon you by your lover in life. One day, you wake up and realize... this is love. True love. I would die without him/her.....I would die to save him/her... to know that, especially once you are older and wrinkly and so is your lover.. that is true love. What most people confuse with it is infatuation and nothing more...

What most people confuse with it is infatuation and nothing more... I agree! Love is described in the poem I wrote below: WOULD YOU BE THERE? Would you be there to hold me When life's blows are so cruel? Would you be there to strengthen When I feel like a fool? Would you speak to my soul dear? Would you cherish my heart? Would your mind always hold me Though we're miles apart? Would you be there to teach me About life's lessons learned? Would you be there to hold me When my soul for you yearns? Would you always remember How imperfect life is? Will you always forgive me And then give me a kiss? Would you run to my side dear If I needed you so? Would you tell me you love me Just to make my heart glow? Would you love through good times But also through bad? Would you love me through sorrow And make my heart glad? Tell me, what would you give me In exchange for my love? Would my kiss be as welcome As the sunlight above? Would you love me through youth But also through age? Would you value my presence While we're here on Earth's stage? And when life's day has ended Would you stay by my side? Till I go to my Maker And there always abide? Tell me, would you be there? |

end of the day, its just a word to describe ones own acceptance toward a concept or idea of experiences in a positive aspect.
If knowledge is experience then, love is just a constant interest of positive experience from your own view, generated by the need to shed or keep away indifference in a sharing and caring environment that is governed by interest. If you truly wish to find out what love is then i would suggest going in search for its equal opposite. one cannot know they are in the dark until illumination is applied to the experienced. Dying for someone doesn't require love... just morals. And if you couldn't live without someone, well then that is infatuation by its own definition. Its not about self indulging poems of the fairytale kind, nor the making of a fictitious cake that takes years to built. love is not construction. creation is construction. Experiencing, Acceptance and Interest. If you have these 3 things then you have love. If they are in constant motion then you have True Love. Apply them towards a person and they will become your Lover. |

Quote: Experiencing, Acceptance and Interest.
If you have these 3 things then you have love. If they are in constant motion then you have True Love. Apply them towards a person and they will become your Lover. Exactly what I was saying in the poem, but not in your scientific method of speaking. IMHO you never find love looking for the equal opposite of love, which would be hate. It's like saying I want to have a glass of cool, refreshing water, but I'm going to drink scalding, hot water to experience the cool drink. Scientifically, this does not compute! |

I know what my opinion on this subject is, I'm wondering what others have to say first :) Both. I think "true love" is the highest level of compatibility. |

Scientifically, this does not compute! :) :) :) my apologies, poetry is not my forte. I will go back to see and try to understand. how would you know what a glass of scolding hot OR cool water was if you've never experienced one or the other before? only experiencing both, would you then know which type you needed, at any given time. Im not for one moment suggesting that people should go and entwine themselves in its opposite. experience it for realisation purposes only, yes!. Im not sure hate is the opposite of love either, sure it can dissolve this errm.. Love, with a click of your fingers. But i think hate is more of a... inflicting type of reaction. Again, just because somebody doesn't wish to love you, doesn't mean they are going inflicting hate upon you. I think alot of people try to apply love or true love to their persona. which is a greedy misinterpretation of the chemistry or forces surrounding, the interesting acceptance of what you wish to experience. example; many times ive seen "Looking for man who can accept me for who i am". to me... this is a very negative factor AAAnd a complete turn off. speaking from experience, these kind of people will never look to see anything from any other perspective. All they are looking for is support and, some kind of enabling to make themselves feel good. This is a damn good topic. |

True love DOES exist...In fact it is ALL that exists; too bad so few can see that.

True love DOES exist...In fact it is ALL that exists; too bad so few can see that. Of course it exists :) otherwise people wouldn't feel it. we are just trying to home in on it "scientifically" to understand it more. .... from a logical perspective. please expand on your definition. |

How can we even begin to explore the topic without a definition of love. And what is the purpose of the addition of the word 'true' in front of the word love?
Experiencing, Acceptance and Interest.
If you have these 3 things then you have love. If they are in constant motion then you have True Love. Apply them towards a person and they will become your Lover. Experiencing, Acceptance of and Interest in what? Humans are always in constant motions or they are dead and if we are aware, we are experiencing. It doesn't require interest to feel cold or pain so why is it required for love? How is the love of a lover different from the love of a friend, a family member, chocolate, a pet? There is no way to have a sensible discussion without first setting up the questions or premises and then defining the terms we should be using. Kenny132, so what is your opinion after all? Would any one like to set up questions and define terms? (edited for spelling correction) |

I think there is such a thing as love, but most people just settle for the person who is closest to what they think they want and so it is rare to find

True love exists. It was evident in my family, both parents and grandparents.
In most relationships, when things get tough, the not so tough get going, i.e., leave for greener pastures. In true love, problems just make the bond stronger. They are solved together and worked on til complete. Damage to the body and/or brain of one just means more care and love needed from the other. The bond is permanent. Many never experience true love so they just don't know how it works. |

I agree with you Metalwing, saw it in my own parents who you might say "worshipped the ground that each other walked on" and did till the day one died. It was an awesome thing to be witness to. |
