My strange fruit

this obsession

my aural obsession

waits for me

at a place whose exterior

is brick and mortar

and whose interior

is warm sounds

of clarinet

and upright bass

full of the easy smiles

of scarved, jacketed ladies

who enjoy the comforts of brandy

and the cool demeanors of other

laid back cats who smell

of sweet cigs and distilled wine

as the smoke wafts thru the air

and the atmosphere

gets a positive buzz

a charge

of electrons

that sizzle

and swerve

as sounds melodic

and ethereal

and enchantingly organic

fill the space

and the crowd gazes to the stage

with rapt attention

The players play,

the ladies sway,

I look away,

transfixed and mesmerized

by the sweetest one in the room

your smile and sense of cool

permeating my heart and being with

so much innumerable possibility

for the night

or for the long haul, I ask myself.

Then you put your hand over mine, and

only the music are paid any mind

as we smile

and just become captivated

once again by the sound!

A delicious write that conjured up a very cool vibe and some great memories of amazing nights spent listening to blues and jazz played slow and low in the smoky back alley "cool cat" hangs of my younger days ...I'm craving a cigarette, a bottle of gin, and a bucket of ice!! ...As always, love this and you!
