Just be upfront...When my hair was longer back when I was a youngen a lot of people asked me if I was a girl, I just laughed it off and said no.

Pat, when they could never figure out if it was a he or a she that was funny
its was always leaning towards one way and they would all get hopefull then, disappointment, like the first one when they figured that they would just ask their name and it turns out to be Pat.
