For me it's automatic. I never smoke in someone elses house unless they do first. But then, around here where I live, public smoking is banned, even in the workplace.

Seems rather odd that included in that, is public parks, open statiums and such. But that's the laws, and I'm too cheap to pay a $50 illegal smoking ticket. Indiana got tough on smokers, too. Get this- Pitch a cigarette butt out your car window going down the road, and an anal cop sees you do it? Get ready to pay a $1,000 littering ticket! surprised surprised surprised

Well, to be fair, a lit cigarette butt can start a brushfire if the grass is dry. And in any case, why would someone need to pitch it out the window at all? Cars still come equipped with ashtrays, don't they?

If you wouldn't throw trash like a fast-food bag or cup out the window, why would it be any different for a ciggie butt? (And really, if you're the type of person who WOULD throw other trash out the window... WHY???)

thts a good decision but u cld hv talked to then first

she should not have been put in the position where she would have to "talk to them"

and I think as her friends they were most likely already aware of her non smoking policies as it is a pretty serious situation.

and I quote:

"I had pulmonary embolisms (blood clots in the lungs) years ago while on the BC pill. I lost about 15% of my lung capacity. I ask people to please not smoke around me because it is like I have extremely severe asthma."

BINGO.

Heck, even if it were a matter of personal preference, it's still HER home, not theirs. I've always insisted that people smoke outside rather than inside my home, and my friends know that (the ones who smoke) so they don't even try. In my college days I had an apartment and my parents came to visit... Dad was a smoker... I even made HIM go outside to smoke and he didn't put up a fuss. After all, *I* lived there and he didn't, and he knew exactly where I'd learned to say "not in MY house" in that tone of voice. LOL

Well, TL, I'm sorry to hear that your 'friends' let you down. I am highly allergic to cigarette smoke, so I can identify with your situation. You were very clear with your request, and they blatantly disregarded your health concerns- shame on them! True friends would not do that. I have a close relative who always forgets what I am allergic to nd what I can't eat, and tries to serve them to me, on a regular basis. I swear to GAWD this person is trying to test whether i am telling the truth, or not! It makes me crazy, because my food issues have not changed in nearly 30 years!!! I would think that would mean something.

It is super frustrating when your word is not believed. I find it very strange when someone cannot adjust their work view to accommodate the needs of others.frustrated

Hope you continue to recover. :)

Well, I don't have any issue with smoke and if they smoked in MY no smoking house, I'd have been upset enough to never have them over again. Even when I used to smoke...still had a non smoking house. flowerforyou
