Topic: doorbell question.. | |

This question has been bugging me forever.
My house has a doorbell that is wired into the electrical system, when the two neighbors on the corner block (across from me) have visitors my doorbell also rings..its highly annoying and I want to know why this happens. Anyone got an idea? |

Hmm....judging from the flood of "men" on here responding to this, apparently being handy around the house is a dead art. Good luck trying to solve the problem. Did you try calling an electrician? |

Wait until 3:00 am, step outside and ring your doorbell, and see if they answer their door.

i am going to guess that you have a wireless system - maybe plugged in or not ...

Simple, your bells are on the same frequency. That's all. Change youre's and it will stop.

I feel so stupid.
I asked my mom because we have a doorbell hickamajigger in the house and she laughed. I guess we do have a wireless doorbell. She upgraded and is now neglecting the old. I never noticed the outside doorbell because she took it off to get new batteries. |

either a wireless radio thingy or 'line carrier' type (X10)
change the freq' if possible or the "code" will fix it |
are you sure it's wired? there are (what do you call them )wireless doorbells now, the button part sends a signal to the bell part and makes it ring, so perhaps you all have those?

Wow, hot. I didn't know you knew all those technical terms! Go, woman's lib! |

sounds like either the doorbells are on the same freq or they somehow got crosswired, either way you would probably have to switch switch your doorbells out for new ones, and if you have someone who is handy they can do it for less than 30 bucks
I will, but if I get chased down and beaten I'm coming after you! |
do you live across the street from Bay?
hey bay could you sound those tech terms out ok? |
On a wireless syatem...if you change the frequency...you will have to change it at the button and at the bell. Make sure they match or it will not work.

canube - that was actually fineporcelain's idea. Wish it came out of my own mind, 'tho. It cracked me up too! |
uh lakeman, maybe a bit more technical terms are needed
If it is a wired system...the bells are wired together and need to be on a seperate circuit. Was this place once a combined property?? It may have been done that way on purpose originally if there was one owner of both places.
