i have a cat that has been my pal for over 12 years, he is about 15 yrs old. lately he has had problems peeing in his box, he pees in and out of it. always next or on the box. i hate it. but he is my pal, but it is not acceptable, i have bought every kind of box so he can pee in it with out peeing on the floor. he is fine according to the vet. just old age, and a bit of laziness. what do i do, he is my pal, but i cant handel the mess he makes,
all you cat haters dont answer. just human people please. is it time for him to take the big sleep?? |

aww mike dont do that maybe take him to the vets and see if he has an infection

mike, no matter what any one says, i love my birds and i see you love your cats...help the big guy out...see the vet

If nothing else put a larger tray around the box with a thin layer of litter on it

You stated the vet says he is fine, just old. Did the vet have any suggestions on what you can do?
done the vet thing 700 bucks. he is fine other then his age. I dont care about the money, i care about him, but i can't put up with the peeing around his litter box and floor. i have heard at that age they just dont care anymore
have you tried putting a larger then the box type of tray under the box? That way it won't go all over the floor in case he misses the box entirely.
no i done everything the vet suggested
i am going to call again tomorrow, can't keep going on this way

I had to do that once, got a tray larger then the litter box itself...think it was made by rubbermaid, and put it under the litter box. If the cat missed the box I just had to wipe up the pee and throw it away.

he just wont get in the box enough to keep his pee in the box, he can crap in it ok but not pee. lol

I am a great cat lover, have 4 of my own.
The oldest one is 15, too. He is losing his hair, doesn't eat as much, but I have heard signs like this and yours are normal for that "old" age. I have wondered the same for my 15 yr old cat. His kidneys might be failing, he is skin & bones. Has lost alot of weight in the last 3 months. I certainly don't haave the funds to take all the tests they most likely will want to do, its a heartbreaking decision. I would do the same ,get a bigger cat litter box, or 2 together even. Its worth a try. Good Luck |

Damn Bob,some days you can be human!!

but i will lie about it if asked if i said it BOB

I would check with another vet. It's possible the cat has a bladder infection or UTI. They get infections and sickness like humans do you know. I would get another opinion. Hope everything turns out ok for ya

Hi there! I'm a professional pet sitter and wish I could offer you more advice.
Have you tried different kinds of litters...there are many different types out there including a pine pellet one which is awesome...maybe he doesn't like the kind that you are using anymore. Has the vet tested him for diabetes? It is VERY common in cats and could be part of the problem. Peeing in strange places is quite common for older cats...it's yucky but you can't help but love them anyway:) No who can tell me how to get my Great Dane to stop hogging the couch??? LOL!!! Cheers all! Cathy |

They do also have pee pads for training animal put in under the box and just change it regularly so you dont have to wipe it up all the time.. Good luck..

he is ok for the box, i have bought 3 or 4 different types of litter boxes. he just will not pee in the box, best he will do is half and half. can not figure out why. he will crap in the box but not pee in it all the way.
