Legends for tell of many a famous last stand.
Never of a knight in shining armor with a broken heart and unforgiving hand.

The harsh and bloody battles had finally taken their toll.
They had twisted his mind and ripped out his soul.

The thrill of victory and the spoils of war.
A time long forgotten of the oaths and pledges he swore.

To love, honor and cherish till death do they part.
Yet nothing at all on how to mend a broken heart.

Beaten, broken and scarred yet the people cheered him on.
Just one more battle, one more victory song.

Yet something was missing from these pledges three
That once were made upon bended knee.

He prized his achievements medals and other such worth.
She prized his heart, his mind yes even his girth.

Cooking and cleaning and keeping the house.
Her role in his life to be as quiet as a mouse.

She sat alone in disbelief and crying
Couldn't he see how hard she'd been trying?

"VICTORY!" he screamed at the top of his voice
Couldn't she see he had no other choice?

He had grown to vain, to bold and to proud
To see one voice was missing from the roar of the crowd.

She gave him her heart, soul and even her hand
Yet still he failed to understand.

To cherish them is all she asked in return.
But image, pleasure and freedom are all that he yearned.

She couldn't give him what he most desired
For she too was broken, beaten and tired.

It wasn't his fault, he had to ride.
He thought she would stay right by his side.

He promised to walk with her hand in hand.
Not leave her behind to become the hero of the land.

She waits in silence for his victory speech
Dead from a broken heart she falls at his feet.

So big, so mighty, so strong and so brave
His love at his feet, he chose not to save.
