Jesus was cruxcified on Wednesday and buried that evening before the start of the special sabbath Passover Wednesday Night/Thursday Day.
Spent Wednesday day/night, Thursday day/night, and Friday day/night in the tomb and was raised before sunrise early Saturday morning. Jesus told everyone that he would spend 3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the Earth just as Jonah had spent 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the fish. |

The Friday before Easter Sunday, on which the Crucifixion of Christ is commemorated in the Christian Church.
On this day Christians commemorate the passion, or suffering, and death on the cross of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Many Christians spend this day in fasting, prayer, repentance, and meditation on the agony and suffering of Christ on the cross. The biblical account of Jesus' death on the cross, or crucifixion, his burial and his resurrection, or raising from the dead, can be found in the following passages of Scripture: Matthew 27:27-28:8; Mark 15:16-16:19; Luke 23:26-24:35; and John 19:16-20:30. |

In actuality when the Romans crucified somebody they didn't get buried.
They were left on the cross, till the birds and other critters took care of the body, as a warning to others. |

In actuality when the Romans crucified somebody they didn't get buried. They were left on the cross, till the birds and other critters took care of the body, as a warning to others. Roman law - Under Roman law, the bodies of executed criminals were normally handed over to their next of kin, but not so in the case of those crucified for sedition. They were left to the vultures, the culminating indignity and shame. The Jews never refused to bury any executed criminal, but instead of allowing the bodies of such sinners to be placed in family tombs, where they might desecrate those already buried, they provided a burial site for criminals just outside the city (cf. Jos., Ant. v. 44) |

Jesus told everyone that he would spend 3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the Earth just as Jonah had spent 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the fish. The date of the crucifixion is not the point ....The point of Good Friday is not when, but why...According to Christian teaching, Jesus died for our salvation which was a good thing... From Wiki.... Day of week and hour... The consensus of modern scholarship is that the New Testament accounts represent a crucifixion occurring on a Friday, but a Thursday or Wednesday crucifixion have also been proposed. Some scholars explain a Thursday crucifixion based on a "double sabbath" caused by an extra Passover sabbath falling on Thursday dusk to Friday afternoon, ahead of the normal weekly Sabbath. Some have argued that Jesus was crucified on Wednesday, not Friday, on the grounds of the mention of "three days and three nights" in Matthew before his resurrection, celebrated on Sunday. Others have countered by saying that this ignores the Jewish idiom by which a "day and night" may refer to any part of a 24-hour period, that the expression in Matthew is idiomatic, not a statement that Jesus was 72 hours in the tomb, and that the many references to a resurrection on the third day do not require three literal nights. In Mark 15:25 crucifixion takes place at the third hour (9 a.m.) and Jesus' death at the ninth hour (3 p.m.). However, in John 19:14 Jesus is still before Pilate at the sixth hour. Scholars have presented a number of arguments to deal with the issue, some suggesting a reconciliation, e.g., based on the use of Roman timekeeping in John but not in Mark, yet others have rejected the arguments. Several notable scholars have argued that the modern precision of marking the time of day should not be read back into the gospel accounts, written at a time when no standardization of timepieces, or exact recording of hours and minutes was available, and time was often approximated to the closest three-hour period. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crucifixion_of_Jesus Why, not when... |

Thanks for the post. However, I do think the timeline of the crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Jesus is very much the point. Jesus said he would give no sign that he was the Son of God other than the sign of Jonah. Just as Jonah was 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the fish, so the Son of Man will be 3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the Earth. You can't get 3 days and 3 nights from Friday afternoon to sometime between sunset Saturday and sunrise Sunday. The Math does not add up. For the Church to deny Jesus' words and the Bible prophecy is a great error. And if he Church can make that great an error, what else have they done? Perhaps the Bible itself is full of errors or full of wrong books or omitting many important books. The Church put the Bible Together, not Jesus. |

Surely you are not just now realizing the bible (and the Church) is peppered with contradictions, time line errors, and information that cannot be proven....You either believe or you don't....Your are not the first and you definitely will not be the last to question the "Word"..... Correct. I am not just now realzing that. And no, It has nothing to do whether I believe, it has more for me personally do with how I live. But for others it could mean whether they believe or not in Jesus Christ as the Son of God. Example for me personally is that I am divorced. And like many Christians divorced, I wonder if it is God's will for me to remarry. Is that Adultery while the ex-spouse is alive. I posed a topic today: Whatever happended to Joseph, husband of Mary (mother of Jesus)? Someone posted that he died when Jesus was 10, yet that is not recorded in the compiled New Testament books. They also provided the info that Joseph was married and divorced before he married Mary. If I had known that years ago I may have allowed myself to remarry. Just because the early Christian Church Fathers did not think it important to put that tidbit of information in the Bible does not mean it is not of immense importance to someone. God is Dead to many folks because the Church acts as if we can't amend the Bible. They think that the closer to the time the Church reviewed which books/text should be in the Bible the better. As if the Holy Spirit could help us less now than then. GOD IS DEAD should be the motto of the Christian Church, because that is what they are silently proclaiming for all the world to hear. |

Just finished reading your profile Charlie ....At the risk of sounding condescending,it's not your place to worry or concern yourself with HOW others interpret the bible or HOW and IN WHAT they choose to believe... Also, as a middle aged divorced man, how can you questions God's will as to remarriage being considered adulterous ten years after the fact and not question His will or position concerning intimate encounters with teenagers?...In you profile, you excuse this by saying "Who am I to question God's will" Good luck man, you're going to need it.... |
