Sometimes Life Happens


At first he was nervous
it was the first time she had accepted his invitation for a quiet evening
without the fuss of the rest of the world
he had the evening planned perfectly
dinner on the deck
a little bit of smooth jazz accompanying the sound of the ocean’s waves
candles against the sunset
wine
dessert and hopefully an impressed young lady
everything was perfect
until the rain started
then the temperature dropped
and the wind picked up a bit . . . it was time to improvise

Once inside he decided to light a fire
and soon the music began
the beautifully cold rain against the window
played a melody
that caused the sensual flames to dance
taking advantage of the moment without words
he poured her a glass of wine
a sweet berry infused Zinfandel that complimented the evening’s new ambiance
as opposed to a fading sunset
dinner was now served against a backdrop of shimmering shadows
and an intense glow that warmed their souls
there was still smooth jazz
and romance
but things were different
rather than the intentionally designed evening
meant to leave her without a single breath
life happened
and with life
love happened
she kissed him
and took his breath away
