In 2 Corinthians 6:14, the Apostle Paul writes, "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?" (ESV)

If you have ever dated a non-Christian while you were a Christian, then explain why.

It is diffult for me to meet men in my age group not already married, because Most Christian men get married don't wait years.
I date Christian men. My Cousin, who is Christian lady, married a non-Christian 17 yrs. ago and they are still married.

Many Christian women date non-Christians even marry. I joined in a dicussion on this topic on another "Christian" forum. The Scripture is definately saying, Christians should not be unequally yoked.

Perhaps the Christian dates the unbeliever as a means of witness? People often form strong bonds between love and their religious beliefs (if they have any at all.)

A person's spouse is supposed to be second (just behind God) in the chain of faithfulness. Perhaps it's a way to pass along your own beliefs or it could simply be coincidence these two kinds of individuals would meet.

Witnessing to the fact that they don't believe the Apostle Paul?

Doesn't it go beyond the realm of dating? I believe it's the case with everyone we encounter EVERYDAY. Are we Christians expected to be unequally yoked with the general public too? This would eliminate the comcept of witnessing altogether.

I assume, however, you're zeroing in on the dating aspect of Paul's word?

Unequally yoked can be more then just if a person is a Christian or non. Some can see it with friends as well. Just because a person says they are a Christian does not mean they are.

Although I have not dated anyone that said they were not a Christian, I have made friends that were not Christian.

I’m going to have to restudy that chapter but what I get more from a quick look over of that chapter is about bring other things into the praise and worship of God. I see the pagan items of eggs with bunnies in many churches.

2 Cor.6:14 Is referring to a Christian and a non-Christian relationship. To be unequally yoked, would be destroying the harmony and fellowship that Unit them in Christ.

Yes....I dated a Mohawk for a long time. His teaching were from the longhouse traditions.
I found that there were a lot of commonalities, and that he shared the same basic beliefs of one Creator, a son, and kindness and fairness to all.

I've found that just like other things in this world a title or label, if you will, is just that.

Just because you say you are something doesn't make it so! I've met men, claiming to be Christians, have little regard for others, are completely materialistic, are whoring themselves with men and women and who then feel completely justified sitting in judgement of others.

I've also met men who lives reflect the morals and values that are associated with Christianity but who do not call themselves Christians, they consider themselves spiritual.

The proof is in the pudding, so to speak. We have to focus on how our lives reflect our beliefs, rather than how we spend time on Sundays, because let's be honest some people think going to church every week makes them a good Christian. Works doesn't get us through the door.

So yes, I've dated men who do not call themselves Christians, but the only way those relationships last is if we have a similar moral compass that we use to guide our lives. Mine is deeply rooted in my Christian upbringing.

Great question!

My BS meter went off on this one, and then I read your reply and I laughed so hard. Thanks, Dave :)

I have dated a non-Christian.

But there is a reason we are told not to be unevenly yoked. This isn't talking about dating so to speak. This is speaking more in the lines of marriage. Because when two are married, they are no longer two, but are one now.

Matthew 19:6
6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

And if you join two things together to make one, does it not blemish the final result if one half of it is "ugly"?

this can never work. for a women we must marry a man that can lead us in the thinkgs of God. and a husband that will love us like chrsit loves the church. that can happen if he is not saved.
