since no man can serve two masters, whats up with the 501 c 3 tax exempt status for churches? id reccomend some research be done on this, starting with an internet search of the IRS website. look for requirements for 501 c 3 church tax exempt
status.
THE fastest growing trend in churches is getting out of this trap.

In the mix...
I was always under the impression that churches
were non profit and didn't pay any taxes,
however I am far from being a pro on the subject...

Rambill,

I'm a bit confused as to what you are getting at...are you saying that churches should throw off the leash of the 501(c)3 exemption *requirements*, and opt instead to just pay the taxes as if they were a corporation?

Or simply not pay taxes, and also not bother legally obtaining their 501(c)3 exemption status?

Or something else altogether?

my point is that scriptual teachings for the church and the requirements for this so called tax exempt status are incompatible. yup.

501c is a problem. Many are opting out as we never have where i attend. I have been told though that a assembly does not have to be 501c to get thier followers a tax deduction. It is just harder for the assembly to do and of cource our govt. tries to discourage this. But you are right if u are 501c and trouble starts the govt. can come in and dictate i believe what can be taught. Personally i will pay taxes before i will agree that we teach some of the abominations this society see's as normal behavior.. Blessings.... Miles

Actually - the tax exemption for churches was established by Thomas Jefferson during his presidency. L-o-n-g before the establishment of the 501-c3.

it should not be tax
because churches is a not-for-profit organization
or at least that is what is meant to be

And, I guess no one is about finding every little loophole and crack and cranny to help themselves out of paying more taxes. I mean, if there is a way to make anyone pay taxes it is the government. How many people have a tax id number and use it to save a few pennies here and there? I have one. I forget about it all the time. I just take care of my crap the old fashioned way. File it all at the end of the year and suffer the consquences anyway. Or not. Depends on my luck of the draw, so to speak.
I could care less if churches are tax exempt of pay little taxes. A non profit organization is not supposed to anyway. I started an N.A. group, and we had tax exempt for everything. It did help tremendously. I am sure many churches need it as well. Most churches give away and tithe and help many with much money that we never hear of.
I will admit that I did not go and research the tax thing, but I don't care.

Hey, Hillfolk, I noticed yer pic. Are you a comic-book collector? I recognized the Baby Huey Harvey Comic there. One thing I collect is old Harvey Comics from the 50s to the 70s.

I used to have quite a collection. Baby Huey was an old nickname I used to have.
