it was a close friendship
until I found out it wasn’t true
so there was nothing else I could do

and this other friend didn't want me as a friend
because they make better friends
then me and my friend

so when I found out they’re really tight friends
I decided it's best to let them stay friends
and I brought my involvement to an abrupt end

when I can’t trust my friend
what’s the point in friendship, to just pretend?

I don’t need friends that bad
to let them treat me like a door mat
and now that I’m out from under their feet
they shouldn’t have anything else to say about me
…
after all

now their friendship can vigorously thrive
with me out of their picture
they can find someone else to patronize
…
and I’ll be more selective next time
about who I let into my life
