Reality


For just a short while
it was easier to just walk into the wind
feeling it’s cooling comfort
as I inhaled the fresh air
and exhaled
the memories
of you and I
yesterday
and what tomorrow could have been
should have been
and will never be

It felt
as if I were moving on
moving forward
even in the face of an unseen yet powerful force that was pushing me back
to somewhere
someplace
far from what we were supposed to be
but pulling my coat tighter
I could feel
the warmth we used to share
and the pain
the pain . . .
would bring me back to reality

The short walk was a nice break from life
but I had to make my way home
back to where
you will never be again
back to where
the echoes of silence
will remind me of losing you
back where it was never easy
to close the door
