This came up in another thread, but I'd like some examples on what you all think are romantic vacations and practical vacations.

I'm really curious as to what people think are practical vacations, as I'm not quite sure!

To me a romantic vacation would be on an exotic Island with warm weather. To me a practical vacation would be camping or just going some place local to visit. There is just something so romantic being by the ocean and walking along a beach with palm trees. Not the same as being by a lake in the local area. Not saying both can't be romantic but a beach front is more romantic to me than a lake front.

So a beach in the US wouldn't be romantic?

Not to me. I would want some place less Westernized if that makes sense.

I guess that's why I was confused about the romantic vs practical vacation thing. I think many things can be very romantic, but not cost much money and doesn't involve leaving the country. I'm sure I'm in the minority on that, though. But, that's why I created this thread. I am interested in hearing examples from many people here.

This is true that any place can be romantic and I am not saying a local vacation can't be romantic but there is still something to be said about an exotic place. Of course I would be more practical due to costs but if I won a free exotic vacation; I would jummp at it. I saw some beautiful places in my travels.

Practical vacation is a vacation I have to take to a destination not of my choosing due to obligation. For example going to Austin to be in a wedding or New Mexico for a family reunion. It isn't that you can't do things in those locals but if given a choice they don't make your list of top 20 places to go or things to do.

Romantic vacation is all about what you and your honey enjoy together and get to spend that time uninterrupted.

I can definitely agree with this.

Practical can be romantic, but it highly depends on the person taste.

Right, which is why I am asking everyone for specific examples.

I think a practical vacation would be one where you use your time off work to look for a better job, maybe in another state or part of the world.

Most anything else would be romantic.

I'm surprised more people don't have examples.

What if you aren't looking for a new job? What's another example of a practical vacation?

I can't think of another practical vacation example. Anything done purely for pleasure could be romantic. If it's pleasurable, it must be practical.

You could of course mix the two.

Oh, ok. I figured since you and Dodo agreed (in the other practical vs romantic thread)that if someone chooses the more romantic option, as opposed to the practical option, they should pay for it, that both of you would have had examples of practical vacations. If not, that's cool. That's what made me curious about what practical vacations are, though.

When my husband was alive we took quite a few "research vacations." One time we studied modern Native American cultures and spent time on reservations...One time we studied the effect that Wal-Mart had on downtown areas and small businesses in towns across the country...One time we "rated" hotels and motels and restaurants for a travel publication we planned to start...We always made time for fun and play too and some romance along the way...But we definitely enjoyed our first-hand "research" and wrote about our observations and experiences.

Practical would be like Disney World with family and Romantic would be Ozarks with my boyfriend. Speaking from trips I had taken before.

A practical vacation would be state park at the beach.

A romantic would be a nice hotel at a topical beach.

Is that what you asking for?
