What do you think self empowerment is?

How would you go about empowering yourself?

How would you go about helping to empower others?

False ideology of a slave race...We just don't know it yet.

I believe in the power of positive energy and spend some of my time shutting out the bad in order to make room for the good, however by spending most of my time encouraging the positive it leaves less time for the negative to out way the good.

There's a balance that we choose to live by and this balance is the difference between looking at something through negative eyes and positive ones. For most it's a matter of putting the word positive before negative.

Some folks feel that you can squeeze the positive out of someone by force, but I think this is unnatural. Encouragement of empowerment through seeing the light instead of dark is a learned skill and is in all of us if we choose to embrace it. I'm not sure we ever arrive at goodness but staying in a positive flow of energy is certainly a way of keeping charged. For myself, I "try" (try being the key word) to look outside of my selfish entitlements and see if I am measuring up for the good of the whole. Am I tearing down others or building them up? If I'm tearing them down than I'm automatically tearing myself down without knowing it.

You know who is a great example of this? On Mingle a few years ago a regular poster was LAMOM. You see this lovely lady from time to time now, but back when she was a regular poster you always saw this encouraging, supportive, loving empowering flow come from her. If there were people like her to plug our chargers into on every corner we would be empowered peoples for sure. There are others here who kick out this same type energy and when I see them show up and spread their light I want to get out my extension cord. These are the people who understand the balance and who give to the whole.

So in a way maybe it is not so much that I or anyone has the power on their own, but maybe a positive empowering embodiment of a whole being. I, on my own am only as good as the mirror, but when I feed off of other good and take ownership of that good, I might be able to shine a light bigger than myself. Maybe even reflecting the overall goodness at a given moment.

Self empowerment begins with independence. When you don't need anyone else you can tell anyone to push off if they become a liability. Recognizing when someone becomes a liability and ridding yourself of them is often a way of encouraging self empowerment in others. Of course they never see it that way. They just think you're being an azzhole.

Self empowerment is also recognizing the difference between what you can and cannot accomplish. Being honest with yourself about your abilities. Asking yourself if your goals are realistic. Doing everything you can, but knowing what you simply can't do no matter what.

For me, self empowerment is the strength that comes from knowing yourself, knowing what is right for you and remaining true to it...I feel individuality is a personal responsibility....Loyalty or strict adherence to "status quo" only serves to suffocate the creative process...

The road to self empowerment begins with developing a keen sense of self, self awareness magnified...Knowing yourself not only paves the way to believing in yourself and your ability to achieve to your fullest potential, it makes you aware of what you need to change in order to accomplish your goals.....Change actions by changing thoughts, change thoughts by changing beliefs...

As for helping to empower others, I would only say this, live authentically!...To do this, you must begin by developing yourself within yourself...

Sometimes when I feel stressed, I just find a spot to stare at, without thinking about anything. You can only do it for so long at a time though, as it gets boring. Even if you can't hear voices in your head, they are still around, trying to make you hear them. Reading can help drown out those voices. Idk about others.

With or without poison? I'll assume without.

I say it's a state of mind that leads one to the pursuit of knowledge and experience and finding that it was constructive.

Seeking out things you wouldn't normally do or want to know, or refining what you've already experienced.

To have them empower themselves? Suggestion. A little direction with a few words or actions, sometimes using repetitiveness.

Self mastery.

To conquer bad habits, addictions, etc.

To understand emotions.

Knowledge into self and others.

To maintain calm in the midst of chaos.

To take your time and do it right, when people are trying to rush you.
(of course if you are trying to disarm a bomb before it blows, you might not want to dally.)bigsmile

I try to avoid getting stuck in self-pity...Over the past few years my husband and both of my grown "kids" (sons) passed away and I really don't have family left..I'm alone now. But I just can't afford to get bogged down in self-pity and walk around "playing victim" even though I know I still have some grieving left to do...I take pride in being a survivor and soldier or "pioneer-like woman" who has what it takes to keep "going-on" no matter what...I have some "off days" but I won't let myself "stay down" for long. I tell myself to "get up" and "get going" so I won't lay around and "drown" in sorrow and self-pity.

1. learning to think for oneself and accept responsibility for one's choices

2.by thinking for myself - weighing my thought to make sure they originate with me & taking responsibilty

3. allowing others to be who they are - let them in if they so wish but do not hold them should they wish to go

Well thanks flowerforyou. It was my own idea, really. I can never let stress take me over for very long. I see no point. It's negative energy.

SELF EMPOWERMENT is the ability of take control of our own destiny, the ability to take action, control and make decision for oneself and enables an individual to use their skills and abilities to benefit themselves.

I try to "own" and learn from my mistakes in life...I don't want to let myself off the "hook.".. How did I contribute to the problems? What did I fail to see? How can I handle things differently if I face a similiar situation in the future?...To me this is all part of my "personal power." I don't want to wear "blinders" and keep repeating the very same mistakes over and over again for the rest of my life.

ENPOWERING ONESELF, we can do this my building on our strengths and skills, by becoming educated on issues that affect oneself, by learning, and gaining knowledge.

ENPOWERING OTHERS, we can foster power in others by encouraging expression and action on issues as they define them, by providing the resources, support and opportunity for them to become involved, to encourage them to learn skill, and gain knowledge that will motivate them to take steps to improve their own lives.

What Self Empowerment is to Me
by 1Cynderella

To me, self empowerment begins with my recognition of my own unique qualities and attributes for what they are; for their own merit and not in comparison to the qualities of others.

The most important part of my own self empowerment is my belief in myself and my ability to move forward in my life and to reach for my goals regardless of obstacles or naysayers.

It’s in my realization that I am in charge of my future, my destiny and my ultimate happiness; as well as in my commitment to use my every asset to ensure all of these aspects of my life reach their best potential.

And, it’s the pure joy of knowing I am the driving force behind whatever motivation I put into every experience throughout the whole of my life.

I empower myself is several ways.

I’m empowered by accepting the fact that I alone am responsible for how I shape my life, including but not limited to my physical well being, my business and financial successes or failures, and probably most importantly, my mental attitude toward others and life in general.

I empower myself by letting go of bad feelings and negative thinking, from past and present experiences alike. I want to learn from the past, not cling to it, because experiences bad AND good are capable of sucking up all my power and corrupting my positive outlook if I let them live in my heart and head; BAD experiences because of their negativity and ability to instill fear, and GOOD because staying within the shelter of their memories is to live in the past and my future can only be seen ahead of me, not behind.

I empower myself through forgiveness. None of us get through life unscathed by others. Whether we are intentionally or inadvertently hurt, a wound left open can only fester. I strongly believe it’s true that forgiveness is for ourselves more than those we give it to, so I forgive with all my heart because I deserve to be free of worry, distrust and hatred for others and their actions that I have no control over.

I empower myself by minimizing the influence of people and things that are power zapping influences. People who use and abuse are a big power-suck. People who try to overpower and control me are a power-suck. People who breed hatred, jealousy and negativity are all power-sucks. People who lean too heavily on me, not only suck my power but will never learn to empower themselves if I enable them as their crutch. Situations that I have no control over will drain my power if I don’t accept them for what they are and work around them instead of engaging in losing battles.

How do I help empower others?

I don’t. But I CAN help them empower themselves. I can be a good example of a life empowered, encourage them on their journey to self empowerment and never offer to be the power behind their lives, or they will never learn to fish....metaphorically of course.
