how do I express what I really feel
if I direct it straight at you
will it make you react too
or
are you like me
just taking a wait and see
attitude
that could lose the race for me

we know our writing isn’t a competition
for the winner to take home first prize
it’s about opening our books
so we can get a closer look
into the mirrors of our souls
as we search for the love that makes us whole
the one other heart we truly recognize
when we can see ourselves in another’s eyes
and there’s no pretense
no kind of disguise
but rather being hypnotized by the one who makes us feel alive
and compels us to strive
to get and keep them by our side
because without them
we feel
and understand that we might survive
but we’ll never thrive
as long as there’s a divide
between our hearts and minds

two sides of different stories

when we come together
will we create one novel
that others will want to follow
reading one chapter after the other
in the hopes that they’ll discover
how we found love
and what works for us
or will we join the rush
getting to the finish line is an eventual must
as running in place
gets us nowhere but here
year after year
with destinations unclear

you know what I’m saying’s for real

so if I can’t win it
is your heart ready for me to steal

is it insured against a loss
have you already decided I’m worth the cost
of losing your life to me
knowing together we’ll live happily
for an eternity

when you read my pages
do they compel you to keep turning
one after the other
hoping you’ll uncover
the key to my heart
so you can unlock my defenses
that bar the door to your entrance
because like me
you too realize
we are meant to be
part of each others destiny

are you a man
that goes after what’s yours
refusing to stop
no matter what obstacles may impede
until you finally succeed

even if I’m the hindrance

does this make any sense

or, are you like me
such a criminal for love
you’ll become a thief
who’s willing to steal
the heart that we need
so we can keep breathing

I, personally, don't look for love in my journey. It is not something that comes with first sight, a few words, or even dating. Looks can be deceiving, words hollow and best feet are always put forward.

Love is a treasure a person holds within themselves. It can be looted or it can be won. The holder bears the choice.

Exposing yourself will always bring risk, but to not do so is to lessen your ability or chances at success in whatever your goal may be.

Life is the willingness to take risks and trusting your judgement enough to make the proper choices. Those choices come from desires, desires create outcomes, outcomes create knowledge, knowledge is your guide.

Two tools that serve me well....

1. Never play a game you are not willing to lose.

2. The addicts prayer....

Lord grant me the courage to accept the things I cannot change, the ability to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Caution serves us well if we have the knowledge and desire to take risks to attain a desired goal. Security is a locked door that stops all but the thief.....

Knowledge comes from experience. Chances are the only means to obtain it. Trust in your abilities and knowledge will serve you well.

Clarity will come and with it all that you desire.

That said, thank you for the insight.... it says more than words themselves.

Hi Soul… thank you for your thoughtful reply… and in kind… here is mine…

I am also of the mind that love already exists in our hearts and minds… because we first have to know how to love ourselves… to take care of… and respect ourselves… and with this innate ability we possess… when we meet another person… no matter the gender… or the type of relationship we seek… i.e. friends and/or lovers, etc… the closer and more deeply that we come to experience another person, our natural love will automatically flow from an open heart… and we will then treat the one we feel affection for just as we treat ourselves… with care and respect… by the same token… if we have a relationship and do not receive care or respect from the other… no matter how many times we hear the words… I love you… love is non-existent… because love is multidimensional… we can see it in action… and we can feel the results of it in our own hearts and that leads us to reciprocate… if we are so inclined…

And I further agree with your take on… “life is the willingness to take risks and trusting your judgment enough to make the proper choices.” along with… “never play a game you are not willing to lose.”

Well… as any gamer who has played enough to be in the realm of competition knows… the outcome of any undertaking is never assured... unless it’s been rigged… so chances of losing is always 50/50… but if the goal we are trying to reach is worth the risk of entering the game… then we would by all means play our best hand… with the intent and hope of… first: outshining any competition.. and second: becoming the victor that walks away with the ante as the reward for a game well played…
