If I ask to meet a chick, then I assume I am paying for drinks, or the meal, or all of it. My momma raised me that a man need be a gentleman and all that jazz. Mom knows best. I agree with this and toxic poison. Paying the tab for a dinner and good conversation with a lovely woman is priceless. No worries and good luck to you. |

I met a guy (from Mingle) for a bite to eat and a little conversation. I think it went well..don't know what the future holds but I did it..I searched local profiles, found one I liked emailed him and went ahead and met up after only a few days and a few email exchanges.Yay..me.
Only thing that was a bit awkward was when I realized I had forgotten to ask for separate checks. I had fully expected to go dutch but didn't realize the situation until two hours had gone by and the check arrived (that's how comfortable I was and how well the conversation was going)...and I had no cash on me ..he graciously paid for both meals and the tip. Thinking of a couple different ways I could/should have handled it but I was also a little worried I might offend or give the impression I didn't want to meet up again.
I am sure this has been discussed many times..none-the-less I would like some input. |

Don't worry.. I know he'd pay your bills as long as you pay him some love

The man should always pay.
To hell with him if he gets his panties in a wad over it. |

I am sure this has been discussed many times..none-the-less I would like some input. It wasn't dinner or brunch at the Empress Hotel in Victoria; relax.I would have expected to pay at any rate; it is just good form. You can always joke about later with him. Good luck! |

I am sure this has been discussed many times..none-the-less I would like some input. You went on a date for a "bite to eat" and showed up without a sou in your pocket??? And "forgot" to ask for separate checks? The general rule is, he or she who invites is usually expected to foot the bill. And he or she who accepts should show up with at least enough cash to cover his/her own, just in case somebody turns out not to be who they said they were. |

Got to say it, we're on the same page Mo!..And she did say she had her card so why not just insist on putting the whole thing on her card then, if he wanted to split it, he could have handed her the cash...Simple... |

Gosh I missed you guys. Leigh, ManO, Mo, Ash, mr irish eyes
and thanks to all who have responded, I appreciate it. It was kind of a spontanious thing...we exchanged a couple e-mails, realized we were both off work monday and decided to meet up. I finished up some chores around the house got cleaned up...and out the door I went...knew I had my card..so figured it would be all good. The check comes and I start to worry about how we were going to do this..I got out my card he got out his..lol Not wanting to push it too much as one must be careful to not offend a man's pride right?
I asked if I could pay he said I could get the tip..that's where the cash would have come in handy....looked in my bag...nothing! I really don't think it was that big a deal, I don't think it bothered him at all..it was about $20 total. I will most certainly be better prepared next time....mostly cause I didn't like how it made me feel.
but I am still not sure...on that first meeting shouldn't we just expect to go dutch? I mean we are both after the same thing to see if they are who they say they are. Should we not ask for separate checks? |

And we seldom fight, but when we do fight, which is seldom, it is never about money is it sweetpea Now here you are making this BOLD statement about how the man should ALWAYS pay and I'm reading this and thinking WTF!! and my nerves are tensing, feeling like I might just explode because that IS NOT what you said to me when we had our first meeting In fact, you said something quite different ManO QUITE DIFFERENT! So in view of that,YOU OWE ME $834.63 !!!! And before anyone says one single word to me (or about me ) I would like you all to know ManO and I did not "just" meet for coffee ...In fact, our first date lasted 4 days and I asked him because I am a LIBERATED woman who KNOWS what she wants when she sees it and also HOW TO GET IT it So darling please MANO UP AND PAY UP !!!!!!!
OR, tell the nice lady you lied!!!
