so true

I am still plugging along with my life, doing as much as possible while I can...lol People do not believe my age(72 in March) but sometimes I feel 100. When friends call and say "come and visit" I go..I love to fly but such a hassle these days, spent many hours in the airports this fall while traveling. I've had to give up doing some things (riding my motorcycle) but just try to find other things to do. Starting to make jewelry again and doing some needlework.. Just do one day at a time...bigsmile

Age is nothing more but a number

Yep for me it's a large number. laugh

The more the number large the more it will be difficult to carry out the life independently. Ha!tears

This is so true. We can kid ourselves all we want that age is a number or we don't feel our age until an accident occurs and then the realization that you are not young anymore hits you. I found out just how old I was when I had my car accident as being older it takes a hell of a lot longer to heal.

I so admire you navygirl, for all the things that you do..You remind me of my youngest daughter who was in the navy for over 12 years. She had to get out because of health issues.. She was a welder and pipefitter 6 years and then switched to Seabees so she could marry and be stationed together.. She has had some serious surgerys but never complains...

My age is my age. I still have a lot of living to do.

I doubt a cat has nine lives. I have seen them get hit by a car and they are done.
My point is age should not be stopping you from things you want to do. , your health an attitude might but not your age.
Yes age and health are two separate things. Some people get sick and die very young. Some people are very old and still healthy an active.

Yes age and health are two different things but they are closely connected to each other. As we grow old our health starts deteriorating.

PROPER NUTRITION is a HUGE factor. Never thought it before, but have learned (the hard way) some amazing facts.

I almost died a couple of times in my younger days so now I eat right, exercise, and just hope I don't get run over by a truck LOL
Side note: I agree with navygirl about job offers though. Happy New Year to all of you and hey life is good!

I agree, despite everything that may happen, life is good, and I am very happy to be experiencing it, no matter what it brings! flowers

Thank you so much for the kind words. Sorry to hear about what happened to your daughter. I suffered a very serious car accident back in 2003 and was told I may not walk again. I fought hard to go against the odds and after 4 years I was blessed that I was not only able to walk again but also did a bike trip of 40 kms. I do have some chronic pain in my knees as my knee caps shifted but my back and neck did heal quite well, so all in all I am doing well. All the best to you and your family for 2014. flowerforyou

Exactly and that is normal despite how healthy we eat or exercise. As I said; I have a small fall or accident; I am more likely to have a serious injury at my age as not only does your health deteriorate but so is your body.

ok..but what age do you consider old AND why?
My thoughts are if you feel old, think you are old and act old then you are old.
Otherwise you are in good shape so enjoy it.

Its not a matter what is considered old; its the aging effect on your body. Different parts of our body deteriorate at different ages and has nothing to do with how old you feel or what shape you are in. You can be in fantastic shape but still lose your eyesight, or hearing for example. As women go into menopause; they have a 50% chance of heart attack and of course this increases as you age. Arthritis can hit you just as easy even if you do stay in great shape. I am not saying you can't enjoy your age but lets face it we have to slow down as we age or you could risk injury or even death.

All I know is I am nearly 70 and so far have been lucky enough not to experience these things. Or maybe its just so gradual I never noticed. I suppose that is possible too.

I often wonder how attitude of older people would change if we were like our pets and had no clue how old we are.

It ALL boils down to "Different Strokes, Different Folks"

We all have different approaches to life, food, living habits, age, etc.

Some chose to fret & worry, some just accept & LIVE.

I prefer to Do what I can, Learn what I can & Bend with the wind of life. Like nature shows, GO WITH THE FLOW. Survive the most terrible storms & keep living.

I agree with you 100 percent.

My beloved Golden Retriever is a perfect example.
He has Cancer, the Vet did not think he would make it til Christmas. He did thank Goodness. He does not know he is old and dying so he still enjoys his life .Chasing squirrels, going for walks, playing with his ball , bugging the cat are still his fav. things to do.
If he knew he were old and dying like people do, I bet he would be moping and limping around.
I think we could all learn a lesson from our pets and just chill out.

To me its not about age per say; its how long it takes to heal because of my age. Its not being able to stay up late as I used to or getting up early without feeling like hell. Its the constant battle to keep my weight down where as when I was younger it was easy. Its looking at those wrinkles or crows feet, sagging skin that are the reminder of my age. Its not being able to shovel snow without my damn back aching unlike when I was 20. It doesn't matter how young I think I am; my body is telling me I need to slow down. I hate it but I also have to accept as I age that I have limitations. I can still enjoy life and have fun but not like when I was 20 and I could do summersaults, jump from a high distance, run a 12 minute mile, not have eye strain because of age, not have to colour the grey out of my hair, stay up all night and party, not worry about heart problems because of menopause, or listen to loud music. These things have nothing to do with my mind or how I feel; it has to do with how my body is reacting to age. And you are lucky not to experience these things but because of age; you are at a higher risk for them.

Actually I guess I do experience some of those things and I do get what you are saying. But what I was trying to say is I don't worry about it or focus on it at all ,so getting older doesn't bother me that much. I feel good and I am still healthy so that all that really matters to me atm. When health issues pop up then I will deal them . I just don't want to feel like I am a walking time bomb because Of my age.
Like Sage said we all have different ideas and thoughts on aging.

As I said; we can still enjoy life at an older age and if we are aware of our limits; there is no reason you can't enjoy your life. I am not worried about my age but I am more cautious about doing things that could injure my body like for example jumping out of a plane, or bungy jumping, or playing tackle football. I can still walk, cycle, kick box, and lift weights so I do stay active. I am not saying you are a walking time bomb because of age, I am just saying we need to be aware of our limitations because of our age or we could end up crippling or even killing ourselves before our time.
