I've heard of waking up with a black eye and having to pee on New years but thats it

I have when I lived in Texas,that was one of the things they did on New Years.

my family has done it ever since i can remember but i just heard the story behind the tradition. back during the civil war around new years the union soldiers snuck into a confederate camp to steal food. they took everything except for the black eyed peas. lol i just thought it was funny... maybe just to me.lol

kinda funny to me that a tradition was started because the only thing that was left was something that they did not want.

Being from the South this is a tradition in my family .... Blackeyed peas and greens is supposed to bring you luck and good fotune throughout the new year . There are a few other things they eat but im not sure what the point is . I only eat the peas and greens . I love both all year round though .

that's what i'm talking about brandy... maybe the good fortune they were talking about was that they didn't take the black eyed peas as well.lol

Maybe so but my Grandma always said that the peas represent copper and the greens are dollars. So each pea you eat equals one dollar's worth of earning, and each portion of turnip greens equals $1,000.

Polk salad is alot like turnip greens , they grow wild on river banks . Most people fry them w/scrambled eggs after theyve been cooked like normal greens . We have a polk salad festival here where I live .

Gypsy ... you would probably run away screaming . My step-Dad used to eat pigs feet when he cooked them it would stink up the entire house .. They also have these things called ramps here that are similar to a wild onion . During ramp season you see kids sitting out in the halls at school away from the rest of the class because after you eat them you cant get the stink off .
