Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was hospitalized Friday after an apparent rear-end crash in Las Vegas, but has since been released.

Fox News was told Reid was able to walk into the hospital, after a crash that involved six cars including U.S. Capitol Police.

"Senator Reid and his security detail were involved in a traffic accident today on Interstate 15 in Las Vegas," Reid's office said in a statement.

"Senator Reid was taken to University Medical Center Hospital by his security detail as a precaution, and walked in on his own. Senator Reid was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident," the statement said.

"He experienced rib and hip contusions and has been cleared for release by the doctors. Mrs. Reid was not in the car at the time of the accident. Some of Senator Reid's detail and a staffer had minor injuries in the accident and were evaluated at UMC."

Nevada Highway Patrol Office spokesman Jeremie Elliott said the vehicles involved in the apparent chain-reaction crash included two Las Vegas police vehicles, two civilian vehicles and two Capitol Police vehicles.

Elliott said four tow trucks were summoned. It's not clear whether anyone else was injured.

Officials in Reid's office said it wasn't immediately clear where the Democratic senator was headed, but first lady Michelle Obama is set to give a speech in Las Vegas Friday afternoon, and Reid's wife Landra was speaking at the event.

Why does he need a security detail? Hes not the President or Vice President and he's not running for either position. When I met our other Seantor, Senator Dean Heller he didn't have a detail. two capitol police and two local police vehicles. He probabaly requested that security to feed his ego and self worth images.

I feel bad for whoever he was in the accident with. Even if he was at fault Harry Reid and an evil, vengeful, disgusting, mean and heartless a$$hole. This person will probably endup in G-Bay tomorrow or at the very least have their professional career ruined.

I wonder why he had to goto the hospital, he was probably hit at like one mile an hour. I guarantee the first couple thoughts in his heas were "Jackpot!" and "Payday!" We all know Democrats, expecially Harry Reid love other peoples money!

I remember when I got my Eagle Scout. My dad got a call from his chief of staff and Harry Reid wanted to attend the ceremony and we told him hell no. He then send a certificate of Senatorial Achievement and I ripped it up and burned it.

The only injury he probably got was to his vagina.

what is so significant about this story,, I got in a car accident myself a couple months ago and still have pt for my back injuries,,,and Im nowhere near as fragile, old, or bony as our senator
