Id say the top three fundamentals in our home growing up (aside from love, of course) were

1. education (proper speech and spelling were especially enforced), 2. choices/consequences,
and
3. community/family 'UNIT' (working together)

msharmony...Great topic! Thanks for starting this thread!...Well my parents expected me to operate through basic common sense. I grew-up hearing my parents say: "Put your thinking cap on!" Or: "Use your head!"...Emotions were okay in my house. (Even tears and anger!) But there came a point where we were suppose to put our emotions aside and work on finding solutions to our problems!...I felt like my parents tried to tell me to "care" about others and "consider" other peoples' feelings and welfare etc...But they also wanted me to recognize "con-artists" and "wolves" in "sheeps' clothing" who might try to take advantage of my kindness and caring nature...Does this fall into the category of a "foundation?" My parents "words" and "ways" definitely live-on inside of me today!

Survial - learning to do things on our own
Respect - respecting others as we would want them to respect us
Honesty - always tell the truth never cheat your way through life
