Id say the top three fundamentals in our home growing up (aside from love, of course) were 1. education (proper speech and spelling were especially enforced), 2. choices/consequences, and 3. community/family 'UNIT' (working together) what would you say were the fundamentals in your home,,the lessons most often repeated and enforced? |

msharmony...Great topic! Thanks for starting this thread!...Well my parents expected me to operate through basic common sense. I grew-up hearing my parents say: "Put your thinking cap on!" Or: "Use your head!"...Emotions were okay in my house. (Even tears and anger!) But there came a point where we were suppose to put our emotions aside and work on finding solutions to our problems!...I felt like my parents tried to tell me to "care" about others and "consider" other peoples' feelings and welfare etc...But they also wanted me to recognize "con-artists" and "wolves" in "sheeps' clothing" who might try to take advantage of my kindness and caring nature...Does this fall into the category of a "foundation?" My parents "words" and "ways" definitely live-on inside of me today!

- laughter -- it is more important than your soul - getting to the food trough before anyone else, or elbowing your way to it if you come in last or so - sustaining our fear of spiders, Mr. Kohen, who was the building's the police informant, on the second floor, and good-looking women. These all cut up, cook and eat little children, our parents kept telling us. |

Great question? Top 3 fundamentals in the house I grew up in, and the one I raised my son in, and how I still live now...
1. We were taught to live life by this famous saying... American Little League Motto: "I TRUST IN GOD I LOVE MY COUNTRY AND WILL RESPECT ITS LAWS I WILL PLAY FAIR AND TRY STRIVE TO WIN BUT WIN OR LOSE I WILL ALWAYS DO MY BEST" 2. Follow the Golden Rule. 3. Take responsibility for your actions, good or bad, because only you make the decisions that will affect your future. Be the best you you can be! |
