I'm only a month into my kung fu training. I've met some impressive martial artists in my time, but these monks are AMAZING. noway I highly doubt I'll get to this level, but I can appreciate it. Enjoy!

Kung Fu is for the love of the art. Not kicking ***. BOOT TO THE HEAD!

Kung Fu is great for kicking ***. You learn joint locks, breaks, punches, kicks (standard and flying variety), throws, blocks, just about everything you would expect from a martial art. It only takes 3-4 motions to force an attacker into submission (sometimes less). More ambitious students move on to weapons. (2 and 3 part staff, sword, chain, etc)

the deadliest combination for fighting arts is Karate, Gracie Ju Jitsu, and Wrestling. No one art form is perfect. The best fighters I know are tri-disciplined. Kung Fu is more for the grace and the art. Likewise it is not intended to be an offensive style. Most real fights go right to the ground. One of the most vicious fighters I knew was a homeless street fighter. Second to that guy was another guy I knew who studied Ninjitsu and not the "Lets pretend we are Ninjas" crap either. Both of us used to climb some strange places like corners in walls and street lights mostly because it was fun. Ninjitsu is a very dirty fighting style. I have seen a Greco Roman wrestler MANHANDLE people of several martial disciplines. He had a fourth degree Kempo instructor in a submission hold faster than any of us could see in an open form competition.

But I will go on record as saying this, I used to have a neighbor named Kevin. meekest man I ever met. LIVED AND BREATHED KUNG FU! He rode a bike everywhere except in really bad weather. Five Ghetto drug dealers who moved into our neighborhood tried to take his bike from him and punk him down. He begged for them to leave him be until one of them tried to hit him. All five were laying on the ground in under three seconds and two of them needed medical assistance. One tried to run and ran into me and my friends heading his way to stop the trash from stinking up our neighborhood. After putting the cretin to the ground and detaining him for police we took our dear sweet time calling the ambulance for the two of them with sever concussions. Likewise I knew this one Chinese guy I went to school with. Half my size, and never came off as a smart *** or jerk. Real nice guy. I watched him torture a person who thought they could make a victim of him. The bar arm grip he got the opponent into made him scream to be let go. I guess it bothered him when I kept saying, "Hey Cho, i don't think he respects you yet," because in between screams of pain the guy kept demanding to be let go so he could break my Chinese friend off. Cho's brother got mad at me for not stepping in and Cho yelled at him he would have kicked my *** too had I stepped in. Frankly he probably could have.

Bear in mind, I respect Kung Fu. But again martial arts are to learn many things besides inflicting Boots to the head!

Yeah, it's a must to learn multiple styles to be a complete martial artist. My school teaches all the major styles of kung fu (Chin Na, Judo[aka Rho Tao], Bagua Zhang, Kong Su, and weapons). Tai Chi is also offered optionally. Not knowing the diverse aspects of kung fu makes a fighter quite vulnerable to opponents.

Yelling is a pretty important part of it. It really does allow you to get more power out of the movements. (sounds crazy, but it's true and can be demonstrated scientifically)

Uh, anybody out there trying to meet people to train with??? I've studied martial arts for half my life and then stopped. After many years now I'd like to get back into training but don't want to spend too much money on a dojo that's more into money than training. I'd rather hook up with some people and train at a a park or something. Or would anyone know where I can volunteer as a punching bag??

lol! If you ask around there are probably dojos or schools that offer sparring classes in your area. I'm not good enough to do much sparring yet (other than holding targets and offering feedback...and helping with joint manipulation practice, etc), but I'll try to get there one day. In the meantime, I suggest beating the hell out of a heavy bag. Make sure your hits are solid though, or you'll develop sloppy technique.
