i wouldn't suggest hanging around people who are struggling with it either but there are many people at AA meetings who are healthy folks. if you meet someone who has 10,15 or 20 years sobriety they can be instrumental in you remaining sober.

Well, they are not all created equal, these meetings. The really good ones have much to offer a person in trouble with addictions. They rally around you and keep track of you to make sure you are doing okay. You cannot fool someone that has been there. They know what works and give their help, willingly. It takes a sick person to know a sick person. It takes one living in recovery to show that it can and does happen. In seeing that it works for others that gives inspiration to those that are lost.

they have a saying that says,"if you sober up a horse theif you still have a horse theif." the thing is when you go into those meetings you have to find the ones who are completely and wholly working the steps. not just someone who can only act the part because they can't do the program.
